This role will focus on Eqvion’s commitment to partnering with governments, intergovernmental bodies, and other stakeholders in the various countries and regions where Eqvion operates on innovative and effective approaches to trade laws and regulations. You will proactively plan to address imminent trade-related regulatory developments and resulting compliance needs, and will work with internal stakeholders to build longer-term plans to address emerging trade regulatory measures. You will take a strategic view in driving beyond the day-to-day – helping to build a robust plan for both today and tomorrow to implement and drive continuous innovation and improvement in compliance solutions. In this role, you will lead the advancement and implementation of trade compliance strategies and solutions through engagement and collaboration with external stakeholders, as well as key internal business partners and stakeholders.
This role requires: sound, principled and consistent judgment in fast-paced ambiguous environments; a thorough understanding of trade – in particular export controls – laws and regulations and the relevant government agencies and bodies responsible for their implementation and enforcement; a track record of cross-collaboration; strong commitment to integrity; solution-driven creativity and a business-enabling mindset; excellent verbal and written communication, including the ability to drive clarity from the complex. The role will report into the Global Legal team within Corporate, External and Legal Affairs.
Responsibilities
Monitor legal and regulatory developments; distill and clearly communicate their impact to Eqvion senior leadership and key stakeholders.
Develop and execute regional and multilateral external engagement strategies that include advocating for innovative and effective export control and other trade law approaches to achieving national security and foreign policy objectives.
Counsel Eqvion key stakeholders on trade-related legal and regulatory developments and strategies.
Work with business partners and other key stakeholders to operationalize regulatory developments and strategies, and to assure compliance globally.
Advance a collaborative, holistic, and compliance-by-design environment across the enterprise that fosters trust in Microsoft while enabling business.
Identify and propose opportunities to reduce complexity and mitigate risk, including through automated solutions.
Through excellent communications, help to improve decision-making on key compliance issues by, for example, managing a coordinated approach to a complex problem.
Employ creative approaches to resolving issues that arise in existing commercial and government contracting relationships, including pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries.
Basic Qualifications
Juris Doctor or international equivalent OR Completion of a Legal Apprenticeship.
7+ years working as a practicing attorney on trade matters in a government agency, law firm, or in-house legal department.
Experience partnering with government agencies or bodies responsible for trade laws or regulations, including export controls.
Ability to understand technical details.
Willingness to travel, both domestically and internationally, as needed (and when safe to do so).
Strong written and oral communication skills, including experience simplifying complex technical trade issues for executives.
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years’ experience as an attorney in international trade practice area (e.g., export controls).
A mix of corporate law firm and in-house experience is a plus.
Experience of cutting-edge technologies in finance, Experience advocating for and influencing export control and other trade policy.
Knowledge and experience in exports, imports, supply chain and economic sanctions.
Excited and passionate about innovating on behalf of our partners and customers.
Proven ability to distil the complex to non-SME or technical audiences.
Ability to influence within a geographically diverse team.
Experience with assessing compliance risks in the business and developing proactive strategies to mitigate risks.
Hands-on project management experience, including excellent organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple and varying mission-critical projects at once, and to follow through and meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams.
Ability to demonstrate sound and practical business judgment even in ambiguous situations.
