Arbetsbeskrivning
ForMAX – a research infrastructure platform and a beamline
The forest is a valuable, renewable resource that could provide society with advanced wood based materials helping to lower society’s dependence on fossil raw materials and thereby reduce the climatic- and environmental impact.
The ForMAX beamline is part of an effort to develop a world leading research infrastructure platform supporting the investigation of novel materials at MAX IV and train a new generation of scientist that will exploit this platform in their research.
The ForMAX beamline will be designed to support the techniques that are most appropriate to address research questions within the field of wood based materials such as SAXS, WAXS and x-ray imaging. They will be used to study the structure and properties of nano-cellulose, wood fiber structures, fiber joints and bio-composites, as well as to study industrial processes such as wood dissolving and pulping. The project includes the development of tailor-made experimental environments that will enable unique experiments for materials characterization and to follow complex processes in real time.
The ForMAX platform will also include other beamlines at MAX IV that after adaption can be of use to support research within bio-based materials. The ForMAX beamline and platform is a close collaboration between academic research communities and the Swedish forestry industry. The beamline is expected to come into operation in 2020.
We are now looking for an experienced individual that can help us deliver the ForMAX beamline.
Job description
MAX IV aims to build the ForMAX beamline, a new SAXS/WAXS/imaging beamline and we are now looking for an experienced Scientist that can act as Project Manager and lead the design, procurement and construction of the beamline and in the future be part of the operation team.

- To secure the necessary internal and external resources and competences to form a beamline project team
- To conduct work-, time-, and resource planning for the beamline project in collaboration with the MAX IV Beamline Project Office
- To communicate and cooperate with external and internal stakeholders. Examples of external stakeholders are the Wallenberg Wood Science Center, representatives from the forest industry, and academics. Internal stakeholders are the management, the Beamline Project Office, procurement, engineering etc.
- To develop a Conceptual Design Report (CDR), including a preliminary budget
- Progress the CDR into a detailed design report (DDR) including the technical specifications and budget needed to take the project into procurement and construction
- To initiate and coordinate activities to strengthen the ForMAX platform i.e. build a strong user community of both academic and industrial scientists
Qualifications
