Examensarbete: Data sheet for high power electric actuators

Field of technology

This Masters thesis concerns of developing a tool generating data sheets for the design of our high power actuators and motors. 

Background information & Place of action

Electronic Defence Systems, a business area of Saab, is one of the world’s premier suppliers of solutions for surveillance, avionics and systems to detect, locate and protect against threat.

At our site in Jönköping we are developing computer based systems and components for the next generation of aircraft from the world-leading aircraft manufacturers. Our group is working with specification, development and verification of software and hardware for utility and control computers and electric motors and motor controllers. 

Task description

The goal is to provide tables of data and graphical operating range curves. Depending on choice of solution and number of students etc. the level of difficulty will be set. The work should cover a “clean up” and improvement of existing Excel sheets but could also include a more detail study of e.g. the thermal characteristics of the motor using  finite-element calculations defining the thermal resistance of the motors. Extension of the work to our gears and brakes is also possible. 

Your job will include understand the motor build and current approach of generating motor data, planning the work including a short specification, and creating the tool including “built-in” documentation. 

Other information

The Master’s thesis position is at the Saab EDS facilities in Jönköping. The position is suitable for one or two students. A student having power of initiative and ability to structure the work to be performed will be appreciated.  

Qualifications

Master students or students within the ’Civilingenjörsutbildning’ may apply for the position. A student following the electrical, physics or mechanical program, with knowledge about electrical motors, and/or thermal finite-element calculations is preferred. Experience from simulation and analytic skills are appreciated.
