As a highly Experienced Scientist you will join our Oligonucleotide Chemistry team within the Discovery Sciences organization at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg, Sweden. You will get the opportunity to use your expert synthetic chemistry knowledge, and play a significant part in applying synthesis of oligo-related building blocks to our current work to expand the use of Oligonucleotide Therapeutics in the treatment of diseases across therapy areas within AstraZeneca.
We have been curious about oligonucleotides as a new modality since 2012 and our scientific interest has only grown. Therefore, we are now poised to exploit on the wealth of expertise from across our R&D units and through a new matrix organization to deliver a proprietary Oligonucleotide Therapeutics Platform in-house. What you will do:
We rely on you to have recognized synthetic organic chemistry expertise and to function as a scientific specialist within the team. Focus will be put on effective delivery to drug discovery projects including laboratory work and collaborations with external services, partners and academia. You will be a role model that provides support, supervision and mentorship to junior scientists by leading from the lab.
It is also expected to recommend, gain dedication to, initiate, lead and champion new innovations and investments that aids the department to meet its overall objectives. Ensures that methods are run professionally as well as develops and guides the setup of new techniques. Additionally, you will build strong collaborative relationships with the project investigators, key partners and cross functional project scientists to ensure the smooth running and execution of projects.
Examples of typical tasks:
* Working and leading from the lab and contribute to the strategy for the ongoing development of oligonucleotides, and conjugates thereof, and their application to relevant disease areas.
* Apply ground breaking technologies and methodologies to establish a state-of-the-art oligonucleotide building block chemistry platform including laboratory capabilities.
Essentials for the role:
Our team is a collaborative group working together for a greater goal and by showing self-awareness of training needs, including leadership development, being a strong team member and an encouraging colleague you will be successful in this role. Furthermore, you are a scientifically critical individual who has the ability to operate effectively in a multi-disciplinary research environment and take own initiatives. Excellent English both spoken and written is required.
We also believe you have:
* PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry and post-doc or industrial experience.
* Advanced and up to date knowledge about synthetic strategies, techniques and reactions.
* Knowledge in the area of oligonucleotide therapeutics including design and synthesis thereof is a plus.
* Strong evidence of experimental impact through a track record of High-Impact and High-Quality publications and external presentations.
* Several years of shown experience in drug discovery and/or early development or in a leading academic institution.
