Arbetsbeskrivning
Are you an experienced bench scientist looking to make a difference by turning scientific ideas into life-changing medicines? Are you excited by the opportunity to make your mark as you do something rewarding for patients, healthcare and our wider society? If this matches your ambition and skills, then you might be the person we are looking for!
This is an exciting time to join our brand-new growing Experimental Medicine team in the Translational Science and Experimental Medicine department within the Early Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism therapeutic area at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg (Sweden), Cambridge (UK) or Gaithersburg (US).
AstraZeneca is a global, science-led, patient-focused biopharmaceutical company that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialisation of prescription medicines for some of the world's most serious disease. At AstraZeneca we're dedicated to being a Great Place to Work where we foster an inclusive culture that champions diversity and collaboration, commitment to lifelong learning, growth and development, and where you are empowered to push the boundaries of science and unleash your entrepreneurial spirit. There's no better place to make a difference to medicine, patients, and society.
Early Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM) is accountable for the discovery and development (up to phase II) of new medicines within three main strategic areas - cardiovascular/heart failure, metabolism (diabetes and NASH) and chronic kidney disease. The Translational Sciences and Experimental Medicine (TS&EM) Department within Early CVRM has the remit to bridge early and late drug development by providing: i) target validation in humans; ii) biomarker strategy (target engagement & proof of mechanism biomarkers); iii) precision medicine strategies; and iv) human data-driven novel target identification. Experimental Medicine team delivers studies in humans, including patient cohorts deep phenotyping, omics characterization, ex vivo experiments on human tissues/cells, to execute on the TS&EM remit.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
As an Experimental Scientist, you will be a key member in the Experimental Medicine team, and your responsibilities will include: testing mechanistic biological hypotheses through in vitro / ex vivo experimental studies; deep characterization of human biological samples using high-throughput data generation; handling and coordination of human biological samples according to the internal and external policies and legal requirements; staying up to date with the literature and engaging in academic collaborations to identify and adopt scientific and technological developments in order to deliver innovative experimental studies or set up novel analytical assays.
