Overview

In the Critical Environments Instrumentation Engineer (CEIE) you will have an opportunity to work alongside a dynamic team of industry professionals across the Information Technology (IT) and Critical Environments (CE) spectrum within Microsoft 24x7x365 mission-critical datacenters. You will be an Industrial Controls Systems (ICS) subject-matter-expert with accountabilities that include but are not limited to maintaining ICS availability, data quality, service and change management, reporting, and the security of all ICS systems and applications that monitor, control, host, transport, and deliver telemetry. You will closely collaborate with Microsoft's local Datacenter Operations teams to maintain ICS high availability and security and provide hands-on escalation support, oversight, and guidance. You will own site level ICS program and project management, and both govern and directly participate in the execution of global initiatives related to ICS systems. You will govern logically and physical access, approval, and permissions related to all ICS systems, networks, workstations, and servers that provide data center monitoring, controls, and telemetry. From assisting DC Operations with maintenance & safety procedures (via monitoring system outputs), to operating and maintaining these systems directly, you will be a steward of vital ICS infrastructure.#COICareers

Responsibilities
Managing, servicing, and governing Microsoft's electrical and mechanical industrial control systems (ICS) to include servers, applications, networks, and device infrastructure deployed within Microsoft's 24x7x365 mission-critical datacenters. You will be the Lead technical resource for these monitoring and control services, ensuring availability and telemetry for critical electrical and mechanical controls systems. You will be the immediate technical resource and point of escalation for CE vendors for IC Systems.
Qualifications
Experience in an operational, mission-critical, 24x7x365 facility
Experience in the design and/or commissioning of Industrial Controls Systems (ICS) in datacenter critical environments.
Experience with deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting of networks and the Modbus and BACnet protocols
Established understanding of Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) and/or Branch Circuit Monitoring (BCM) and/or Building Automation Systems (BAS), and/or Battery Monitoring Systems (BMS)
Experience with the operation and maintenance of building electrical systems (Power distribution, lighting, grounding, fire alarm, security, life safety, and related controls systems)
Experience with the operation and maintenance of building cooling and related mechanical systems (HVAC, Chilled Water, DX Refrigerant, Evaporative, and related controls systems)
Experience with Critical IT Equipment (e.g. Servers, SANs, Networking gear, Fiber distribution, etc.)
Bachelor's degree or applicable field experience in Critical Environments, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, or Process Engineering
Knowledge of construction techniques and terminology including the ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings and documents is essential.
Occasional travel will be involved.


Preferred:
Project management experience with a focus on agile, lean or ITIL methodologies.
Ability to manage, prioritize and successfully execute multiple concurrent mission-critical infrastructure projects.
Working knowledge of contract terms, conditions, mechanism, and procedures.
Experience with configuration and administration of Microsoft Windows, Hyper-V, SQL server and associated security methods and best practices.
Experience managing vendors as a customer
Ability to manage, prioritize and successfully execute multiple concurrent mission-critical infrastructure projects.
Ability to balance competing demands for resources and adapt to changing priorities.
Proven ability to deliver projects on-time and adherence to deadlines.
Proven ability to motivate disparate teams both direct and indirect to solve issues.
Proven ability to apply clear critical thinking in complex, stressful situations.
Provide meaningful and timely reporting for weekly success metrics.
