Fluids technician

The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using neutrons. The ILL operates the brightest neutron source in the world and hosts over 2000 visits by scientists per year, who come to carry out world-class research.

Fluids technician


Duties:
You will join the Automation, Operations and Fluids team in the ILL's technical halls, and your main duties will include:

- Ensuring the maintenance and upgrade of the experimental hall and instrument fluid networks.
- Performing the studies required for routing and installing the fluid circuits, and producing the necessary metal and PVC support structures.
- Preparing the design studies and specifications for the distribution circuits for new instrument projects.
- Managing the materials and equipment, orders and quotations, and assisting in the preparation of jobsites (safety and logistics, etc.).

Your work involves intervention on the ILL's pressurised water, gas and air systems.

Qualifications and experience:
- Vocational training certificate RQF level 1 or 2 in welding, piping or plumbing.
- We are looking for an initial experience in the organisation of an industrial jobsite.
- Competence in welding stainless steel, aluminium, steel, copper and brass.
- Torch and arc welding skills.
- Familiarity with electricity would be an advantage.
- We are also looking for DATR category B classification.
- A licence for the operation of overhead cranes and platforms would be an advantage.


Language skills:
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. We are looking for knowledge of English and French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL). Knowledge of German would be an advantage.


Observations:
This is an 11-month fixed-term contract.
Medical fitness for work under ionising radiation is required.
This post is Grenoble-based and subject to safety screening.
