Arbetsbeskrivning
Are you educated in forestry or environmental systems and want to contribute to improving forest biodiversity? We are now looking for a modeler that can specialize in the Heureka forestry decision support system, that will work with modelling of biodiversity. What we do today in the forest is important for the nature and the future!
Innovate for a better climate. Every day.
Safeguarding and also enhancing biodiversity is a key priority for Stora Enso. To reach the goal of Net Positive Impact on biodiversity, intensified actions to develop biodiversity need to be taken now. Biodiversity development in northern managed forests today rests mainly on measures continuously taken since the 1990s. This is not sufficient, and Stora Enso is now taking additional actions. To make the right decisions in the near future on such actions, we need to know also more about the potential long-term effects on biodiversity. Therefore, we are engaged in biodiversity modelling.
At this point we see a need to add to our team a person with focus on modelling features of forests’ biodiversity with the Heureka forestry decision support system. You will be a key person that will develop and be responsible for the practical development of applying Heureka to biodiversity issues. Output from the Heureka model will be used, for instance, in connection to R-based models on selected species. Results will provide quantitative and qualitative biodiversity input to the internal decision making as well as to external communications. Our team is building the capacity to model how habitats suitable for different species will develop over time and how an increased abundance of nature value elements, due to targeted biodiversity actions in the forest, can positively influence the development of habitats. In this role you will be part of team focused on improving biodiversity practices across our Forest Division. You will cooperate closely with Stora Enso’s Sustainability teams, but also externally with universities and research institutes.
Your location will be either Sweden or Finland and welcome applicants independent of location as we have a well organised environment for hybrid working. You will be working in Forest Division and report to VP Sustainable Forest Management.
Who are we looking for?
We invite applicants with interest and perhaps also basic competence in the Heureka forestry decision support system. There are also other similar systems and we also welcome applicants with such experience with an interest to learn the Heureka system. Your proficiency is based on a degree in forestry, systems thinking, sustainability, or another relevant area. As a person you have mathematical skills and are good at logical thinking. You preferably have some demonstrated skills in forest modelling. General knowledge of forest management and biodiversity is an advantage. You are a good communicator with negotiation skills and communicate fluently in English. Swedish and Finnish language knowledge is an asset.
