Formulation & Characterization Experts PD Inhalation Unit
The Arena
AstraZeneca is currently making large investments to increase our research capability in Inhaled Pharmaceuticals, in Mölndal, Sweden. We are investing in new equipment, new technologies and more people. We now aim to increase the number of people working with Product Development for Inhalation by 50%. We therefore seek people with knowledge in various skills relevant for inhaled drug delivery, such as formulation science, analytical chemistry, solid state properties, device development and biopharmaceutical sciences.
AstraZeneca Mölndal is one of AstraZeneca?s three core sites for drug research, with about 2.500 employees at site. At Product Development, Sweden, a sub-division of Pharmaceutical Development, we focus on the fields of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases and on Respiratory, Inflammatory and Autoimmune Diseases. Within Product Development Inhalation we have an exciting pipeline, consisting of both new molecules and new devices. The unit currently comprises 80 people, dedicated to research and development for new inhaled drug products and we want you to be a part of growing our expertise in this area.
The Role
As a Formulation & Characterization expert you will be a part of a team developing and optimizing our formulation platforms for Inhaled drug projects. Your main focus will be on formulations for dry powder inhalers, but other techniques will also be investigated. You will develop formulation processes for new drug projects and characterize the performance of your formulations. Examples of key attributes for the role are the following, recognizing that a candidate may not have all of these:
Be a part of, or lead, technical cross functional project teams, working on new Inhaled formulations
Develop new characterization methods for our drug products
Develop and optimize processes for formulating inhaled drugs, e.g. micronization, conditioning, mixing and spray-drying
Characterize formulations, using impactor analysis, e.g. Next generation Impactor (NGI), Fast Screening Impactor (FSI), Andersen Cascade Impactor (ACI), and laser diffraction methods
Apply various methods for particle sizing and powder flow
Develop and utilize LC methods for quantification
Apply technical knowledge to improvement projects and the evaluation of new technology/processes.
Assess, record and report data. Draw authoritative conclusions and make recommendations
Prepare documentation and formal reports in accordance with current standards
Work closely together with Device Development
Perform Technology Transfer of drug product manufacturing processes and analytical methods
Requirements
We seek a broad range of expertise in these roles. We are looking for you who are considered to be an expert in this area, have a PhD in relevant topics and we are also looking for newly graduates typically from pharmaceutics, chemistry and chemical engineering. The career level of the positions will be set according to the background of the applicants.
