Formulation Senior Scientist/Associate Principal Scientist

Arbetsbeskrivning

At AstraZeneca we turn ideas into life changing medicines and strive to continuously meet the unmet needs of patients worldwide. Working here means being entrepreneurial, thinking big, and working together to make the impossible a reality. If you are swift to action, confident to lead, willing to collaborate, and curious about what science can do, then you're our kind of person.

AstraZeneca is a global, science-driven biopharmaceutical company. We are dedicated to discover, develop and deliver innovative medicines and healthcare solutions that enrich the lives of patients.

One vision of our global Pharmaceutical Sciences function is to deliver the therapies of the future through scientific leadership in drug delivery. Our portfolio of projects includes traditional small molecules to nucleotide-based therapies and nanomedicines across AstraZeneca's therapy areas. The formulation development team in Early Product Development & Manufacturing (EPDM), is focusing on developing small molecules into oral, inhaled and parenteral products for our drug projects. We have the responsibility to progress the candidate compounds from pre-clinical phase up to Proof of Concept in humans.

This is a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic, innovative and motivated Formulation Scientist to join our formulation development team in EPDM at AstraZeneca's vibrant R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden. Join us and become a member of a dedicated team, working with drug delivery of various drug molecules closely together with other skill experts in our common effort to drive the drug projects forward.

The role will be offered at Senior Scientist or Associate Principal Scientist level, depending on your background and experience.

What you'll do

This is an exciting role where you will act as a key member of various project teams and provide your technical and scientific expertise into formulation design and development strategies. You will develop and deliver different formulation systems for oral, inhalation and parenteral use, supporting projects in preclinical and clinical phase.
This requires a tight collaboration with other internal functions and external partners to build our capabilities in drug delivery as well as engaging with customers in the development of solutions by applying a broader perspective.
You will be a member of cross-functional project teams, with a large degree of independence representing your own group and area of expertise. You will be responsible for defining lead formulations to ensure desired preclinical and clinical performance, including a strong contribution to CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing, Control) aspects and deliveries.
You are expected to perform lab-based experimental work in accordance with project timelines. The work is documented according to current standards and where appropriate to GMP, as well as contributing to CMC Regulatory submissions. You will further develop skill expertise by e.g. evaluation of new technologies and processes and to be involved in science & technology initiatives.

Essential for the role

* Degree (MSc or PhD) in a discipline relevant to formulation science, pharmaceutical technology, chemical engineering or equivalent qualifications.
* Experience in working with formulation development or similar product development.
* Genuine interest in experimental work and hands-on problem solving.
* Delivery focused and ability to utilize scientific and innovative thinking.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Desirable for the role

* Technical competence in the field of drug product formulation development for oral, parenteral and/or inhaled delivery.
* Ability to drive science and author scientific publications and/or CMC regulatory documentation.
* Good understanding of suitable quality standards and regulatory frameworks
