Arbetsbeskrivning
MAX IV Laboratory has operated successfully for more than 30 years and is currently commissioning the new MAX IV synchrotron facility in Lund. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually, from Sweden and the rest of the world. They will do research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. 200 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory.
MAX IV is the largest and most ambitious Swedish investment in national research infrastructure. It will be the brightest source of X-rays worldwide when inaugurated June 2016. MAX IV Laboratory is hosted by Lund University.
Tasks
The successful candidate will develop a sample environment for novel macromolecular crystallography experimental setups based on the EUCALL collaboration.
EUCALL is a network between leading large-scale user facilities for free electron laser, synchrotron and optical laser radiation and their users, see https://eucall.eu.
Within EUCALL, the MAX IV Laboratory is involved in developing standard setups allowing users to prepare their experiment, use different facilities and conduct their experiments efficiently.
This project is part of the MAX IV Laboratory’s preparation of the first macromolecular crystallography beamline BioMAX and the future MicroMAX beamline. In order to fully exploit the potential of these beamlines we need to develop new sample environments and prepare for new methods exemplified by the different serial crystallography developments now taking place at different XFEL and synchrotron facilities.
The successful candidate will lead the development of the sample environment setup and collaborate with developers in the MX group and with other relevant staff within MAX IV such as mechanical engineers.
Qualifications
The candidate must have a PhD in physics, chemistry or another relevant field and also have:
- proven knowledge of working with X-ray instrumentation
- experience of X-ray experiments at a large scale facility
- good communication- and cooperation skills, and a good command of English, both oral and written.
It is an advantage if the applicant also has knowledge and experience of:
- macromolecular crystallography
- recent sample environment developments within the field of serial crystallography or similar
- developing and maintaining synchrotron radiation instrumentation.
This is a temporary contract for 2 years.
The University applies individual salaries. Please state requested salary in your application.
We kindly decline all sales and marketing contacts.
Lunds universitet välkomnar sökande med olika bakgrund och erfarenheter. Vi ser jämställdhet och mångfald som en styrka och tillgång.
