Placementcity: Kalmar
Extent and period: Full time, 2 years, starting on September 1st or in accordance to agreement.
Job description
A position as research engineer during two years is available at the Host Response to Biomaterials Laboratory at the Linnaeus University, Centre for Biomaterials Chemistry, Sweden. The subject of our research is to study how biomaterials perform in a biological system, with focus on the intravascular instant immune activation and thrombotic response (i.e., thromboinflammation). The main goal is to advance the understanding of the mechanisms behind adverse reactions to biomaterials in clinical use, to make treatment with biomaterials better and safer.
This project combines research in innate immunity and hemostasis with biomaterials science. The project will include the development of experimental whole blood models, and evaluation of inflammatory and thrombotic responses in human whole blood after biomaterial contact. The primary focus is thromboinflammatory complications in nanoparticle drug delivery systems. Methodologies that will be relevant are human whole blood models, techniques for cell culturing and analysis (flow cytometry, microscopy, etc.), biomarker analysis (ELISA, western blot).
The research will be performed at Linnaeus University, Centre for Biomaterials Chemistry, Sweden, in collaboration with the University of Oslo and Oslo University Hospital, Norway. The candidate will join a strong and interactive research environment.
Qualification requirements
• The applicant should have a PhD degree in a subject area of relevance for the project (biochemistry, cell biology, biomedicine, biomedical engineering or similar.)
• Applicants should be proficient in written and oral English.
• Great importance will be attached to the compatibility of the applicant’s professional and personal disposition. We aim to find a candidate who is highly motivated, ambitious, collaborative, independent and well structured.
• In the assessment, emphasis will be put on the applicant’s potential to successfully undertake research in the area of biomaterials sciences.
Additional valuable qualifications
• Experience from research within innate immunity or hemostasis, or biomaterial science is an advantage.
• Extensive laboratory experience and excellence of cell culture techniques, relevant molecular and cellular techniques is advantageous.
• Experience from research within innate immunity or hemostasis, or biomaterial science is an advantage
