The Faculty of Medicine is a part of Lund University, and is responsible for education and research within medicine and healthcare. Job description

1) Scientific project management: This part of the work will include multiple parallel tasks to be executed and will be carried out with close contacts both with the Head of the Laboratory (Prof Deniz Kirik) and his laboratory staff.

The successful applicant will also be asked to take an active role in the research group’s external collaborations, mostly with leading research groups in Europe and the US.

2) Responsible scientist for all light microscopy capacity possessed in the group. These include both quantitative and qualitative microscopy using light or fluorescence microscopy instruments, automated microscopes for stereological analysis tools, as well as confocal and super resolution microscopy.

3) Overall management of the entire laboratory facilities belonging to the team. This aspect of the work will include management of the space, instruments, their service and maintenance contracts, communication with the suppliers for their continued use without disruption. In addition, it will encompass management of the team’s access to common lab facilities, primarily located in the BMC animal facilities but also those that may be set up outside the scope of the work with animals.

4) Establishment and maintenance of complete electronic records for all experimental work done in the team by using database oriented electronic lab books (e.g., LabGuru)

Qualifications

1. MSc degree in biomedicine or equivalent

2. PhD degree in experimental medical science or equivalent with direction to Neuroscience

3. Extensive documented work experience in neurodegenerative diseases area with focus on Huntington’s disease and/or Parkinson’s disease models,

4. Candidates who have high level of documented experience in techniques including but not limited to animal stereotaxic surgical techniques, use of recombinant viral vectors in the brain, histopathology of brain tissue, light and confocal microscopy, plate based assays for trace analyte quantification, RNA and DNA quantification are going to be considered.

5. Candidates with experience in team work and excellent communication skills is a must-have quality.

6. Candidates who can provide evidence for excellent presentation skills and ability to write scientific grants and research articles will be preferred
