The vocation of the Department of Public Health Sciences at the Karolinska Institutet is to conduct research, education and consultations based on the concept of Public Health.The research at the Department focuses on health problems at the population level and on problem solutions in the domain of prevention, community action and health service development.All activities at the Department are characterized by qualified international collaborations. The department has at present seven Divisions and a total of about 270 employees, excluding the post-graduate students (about 150).The Division of Public Health Epidemiology has been recently created with the purpose to further promote epidemiologic research and education.The division has a multi-disciplinary composition, with expertise including medicine, epidemiology, economy, sociology, psychology, statistics and public health sciences.Work description and tasks: Supporting senior scientists in the design and conduction (e.g.data collection, data summary) of epidemiological studies in the frame of a research project on the effect of maternal smoking during pregnancy on offspring's smoking and nicotine dependence later in life.Qualifications: Required: University/ master degree.High proficiency in spoken and written English.Interest in smoking and health as research topic.Desirable: Proficiency in spoken and written Swedish.Experience of statistical softwares such as SAS, STATA, SPSS.Experience of research environments in the field of Public Health and/or epidemiology.Added merit: Background in bio-behavioral disciplines such as psychiatry, psychology, neurobiology of addiction.
