The fur breeding industry in Finland is one of the largest in the world and is known mainly for the fox fur production. Finland has since long emphasized the importance of responsible and sustainable breeding, which has resulted in the best quality fox fur in the world. Fur farming is a significant economic activity in Finland and one of the country's most important export industries.
The fur breeding in Finland is concentrated to the Ostrobothnia region, where 95% of the fur farms are located. You can find Foxcraft's facilities in the heart of the fur breeding area that is the town of Nykarleby.
Foxcraft is a pelting center, where we are crafting our customers' fur skins to make them ready for selling. The pelting process is an important craft work to maintain the quality of the fur skin, which is why Foxcraft has developed several intelligent machines that make the process easier for the workers.
The pelting process consists of multiple steps: The skin is removed and the fat layer is scraped off. The skin is further cleaned by drumming in sawdust and then stretched onto a board for drying. Lastly when the skin is dry the fur is combed.
Foxcraft is providing housing as well as transport to and from the pelting center, and the training period of a few days at the start of the pelting process is paid.
