Arbetsbeskrivning
Since you’ve landed on this page, you already know Hedvig is a mover and shaker in insurtech, and think you might have what it takes to join us. As the only loved insurance company in Sweden (in the world?), we’ve proven that it’s possible to disrupt an entire industry with people’s best interest at heart. But our journey is just beginning.
Our front-end web development team is a relatively small but skilled team that is working hard to build Scandinavia’s most loved insurance company. We work closely with product, design, back-end, as well as app developers to create the best experience for our customers.
We work mostly on developing our public website, shaping the purchase journey of potential new Hedvig members. The site is powered by React, Emotion, and TypeScript, and on top of this, we also use GraphQL with Apollo, a little bit of Koa, and the headless CMS Storyblok. We hold open-source projects near and dear and hence most of our front-end source code is public - if you’re curious about what you’ll work on day-to-day you can check out our front-end web repos on GitHub.
What about the role?
As a front-end engineering manager at Hedvig, you will be writing and reviewing code along with your teammates. You’ll spend time developing and refactoring React components, and make designs come alive in close communication with our designers. You’ll solve issues of code scalability as well as exiting UX challenges as Hedvig expands both in number of products and to new markets. You’ll also write the occasional tests with Jest and React Testing Library.
But more importantly, you will be responsible for leading and coaching the other front-end developers. In addition to the support on daily tasks, you will ensure that they are developing their capabilities, skills, and careers.
At Hedvig we strongly believe in the power of collective thinking, hence you won’t single-handedly make all technical decisions. You will however be the one who has the final say in these matters if the group does not succeed in agreeing. This of course means that you’re a skilled communicator who knows how to listen and how to admit your knowledge gaps.
The role also requires you to collaborate with the other teams to develop strategies and efficient processes for the platform. On top of that, you will have the responsibility of communicating with stakeholders by explaining solutions and technical trade-offs. This role aims to bring clarity to the organisation over what we do and how we do it.
What about you?
You’ve most likely been working with front-end web development for quite some time, and you have some experience of coaching or leadership. But more importantly, you have a strong interest and motivation to develop in this direction. Since a big part of the role includes hands-on coding you should probably be familiar with at least parts of our tech stack. Our ideal candidate likes tech-savvy front-end work and has an interest in front-end software architecture. Having an eye for UI/UX design is also a plus.

We believe the following would make you a perfect fit:
• You are fluent in Javascript for web production, preferably React
• You know HTML and CSS, and you’ve worked at least some with TypeScript.
• You might also have some experience working with a headless CMS, GraphQL and Apollo, and CI/CD pipelines.
Further, we look for developers who aim high and don't play it safe. We love creative problem-solvers who are not afraid to try new things and fail!
What about us?
As part of the Hedvig team, you will quickly notice that "general truths" are not accepted without being questioned. We're an enthusiastic group of people who love to challenge each other to find the best way forward. We don't care who says something, we care about what's being said. We put a lot of effort into building a trusting culture where freedom, collective thinking, and individual ownership have center stage. We're not perfect – far from it – but we talk about and learn from our mistakes and imperfections to continuously get better. As individuals, as a team, and as a company. And we have a lot of fun along the way!
Sounds like your next challenge? You can start by sending us an application. If you don't feel ready maybe you want to know more about us? Then check out our LinkedIn page where we regularly post inspiring thoughts from our people 💫
