Since you’ve landed on this page, you already know Hedvig is a mover and shaker in insurtech, and think you might have what it takes to join us. As the only loved insurance company in Sweden (in the world?), we’ve proven that it’s possible to disrupt an entire industry with people’s best interests at heart. But our journey is just beginning, starting with Sweden, Denmark and Norway! We’ve been working hard since the very beginning to change an industry that is hard to love – to something at least likeable. At Hedvig we believe the only way to do so is to work with loveable people.
The frontend team shapes the purchase journey of potential new Hedvig members as well as existing ones. The user experience is central for Hedvig which makes the team dear to the company. The team is relatively small yet very skilled. The team is working hard to build Scandinavia’s most loved insurance company. We work closely with product, design, back-end, as well as Mobile app developers to create the best experience for our customers. Currently and due to Hedvig’s expansion in terms of markets and products we are hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the team.
What about the role?
• As an Engineering Lead, you will never be far from solving problems and writing code, yet you will have the responsibility of leading and coaching our talented but small front-end team.
• You will have the responsibility of communicating with stakeholders by explaining solutions and technical trade-offs. This role aims to bring clarity to the organization over what we do and how we do it.
• You’ll make decisions and solve issues such as code scalability and exiting UX challenges as Hedvig is currently expanding its product offering and new markets.
• In addition to the support on daily tasks, you will ensure that your team is constantly developing their skills and capabilities.
What about you?
• You’ve most likely been working with front-end web development for some years, and you have some coaching or leadership experience. But more importantly, you have a strong interest and motivation to develop in this direction.
• A big part of the role includes hands-on coding, and you should be familiar with our tech stack. The site is powered by React, Emotion, and TypeScript, and on top of this, we also use GraphQL with Apollo, a little bit of Koa, and the headless CMS Storyblok.
Again, those are not hard requirements! If you have a different profile but you see that you have relevant skills and you think you can do a remarkable job, apply and send an email to us motivating why we should meet you. We believe that a good developer is a problem-solver who is capable of learning any new tech stack. We highly value both a good attitude and personality as a leader and place a lot of emphasis on these "soft skills".
What about us?
As part of the Hedvig team, you quickly notice that "general truths" are not accepted without being questioned. We're an enthusiastic group of people who love to challenge each other to find the best way forward. We don't care who says something; we care about what's being said. We put a lot of effort into building a trusting culture where freedom, collective thinking, and individual ownership have center stage. We're not perfect–far from it – but we talk about and learn from our mistakes and imperfections to improve continuously. And we have a lot of fun along the way! As individuals, as a team, and as a company.
Sounds like your next challenge? You can start by sending us an application. If you don't feel ready maybe you want to know more about us? Then check out our LinkedIn page where we regularly post inspiring thoughts from our people, and also our Career page where we (try to) share our values💫 If you have questions regarding the position, please feel free to write to careers@hedvig.com.
