Position Description
Connected, electric and autonomous machines are making their way into our lives, and it is happening fast! We at Volvo Construction Equipment in Eskilstuna conduct research and development towards these areas & technologies. This paradigm shift in the construction industry introduces new safety and security challenges. This is where the Functional Safety and Security comes into the picture not only to strengthen prevailing safety expertise and culture but also to address contemporary security and safety risks of electronic embedded systems.
You will be part of a dedicated team in functional safety and security. Together with the team, you will work to build up and secure the Electric/Electronic-system safety and security. With safety means no harm is caused, deliberately or not and security means that no deliberate harm is caused.
You will apply your knowledge and experience to analyze functional safety risks and identify functional safety requirements. Your will propose technical concepts and solutions. This requires identifying what the required safety functions are, assessment of the risk-reduction required by the safety function, ensuring the safety function performs to the design intent, verification, and providing proper documentation.

Embedded Electronic Systems (EES) Architecture is a function within Volvo CE’s Technology organization. We are responsible to develop and establish the electronic system architecture to be functional for all our machines meeting the stakeholder and customer needs. An important role of the EES Architecture team is to secure that we design and develop the electronic system architecture in the best way to ensure system safety and security.

When working within EES Architecture team, the collaboration within Volvo CE and Volvo Group to develop common solutions, gives an extensive network with colleagues from all cultures and areas. Our work environment is global and highly cross functional with important and frequent interactions with most functions and product owners in our company.
What will you be doing?
As Functional safety Engineer you are responsible for assuring the functional safety of our products within the Embedded electronic system function, by performing functional safety management activities through the life cycle of the product (System, Software, Hardware).
Perform appropriate functional safety analysis to ensure product development activities are performed according to relevant functional safety standards ensure that the systems and components delivered are in line with the best functional safety practices and at the same time compliant with the other features and functionalities of the system.
Support home organization to ensure safety standard compliance according to appropriate standards like IEC61508, ISO13849, ISO19014 or ISO 26262
Facilitate safety standard related activities in the home line organization such as creations of HARA, Functional safety concepts, technical safety concepts, DFMEA, FMEDA, FTA, compliance matrix and safety case
Conduct reviews with product teams to ensure functional safety standards are being met throughout product development cycles
Perform System design using SYSML / Modelling tools like Enterprise Architect.

We also believe you have:
Relevant academic background e.g., Bachelor and/or master’s degree
Good communication skill in English, proficiency in Swedish is desirable
Experience of working with electrical and/or electronic system in the automotive industry
Practical experience in facilitating safety or quality analysis, such as HARA, FMEA, FTA etc.
Systems engineering
Experiences in the application of safety standards such as IEC61508, ISO13849, ISO19014 or ISO 26262
Great interest and curiosity in the area and willingness to challenge yourself and learn.
