Business Area Markets maximizes the value of Vattenfall’s portfolio by optimizing and dispatching, hedging and sourcing for Vattenfall's assets and sales positions. We offer power purchase agreements to operators of wind or solar parks, optimize 3rd party batteries and enter into origination deals within the B2B segment. We serve as Vattenfall’s single market access to energy commodity markets trading in electricity, emissions, fuels, freight, and renewable certificates. We are responsible for generating profits by taking positions within defined risk mandates and limits. We are active across Europe with more than 500 professionals working from Sweden, Germany, The Netherlands, and Denmark.
The Operational Unit (OU) Operations is responsible for providing Analysis, IT, Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) and Project Management support to the Vattenfall Assets and Trading Division - the mission is to enable business. OU Operations is consisting of highly skilled employees with backgrounds ranging from mathematics, engineering, economics, computer science to project management. We are present in the locations Hamburg, Stockholm and Amsterdam.

For our office in Hamburg, Stockholm or Amsterdam we are looking for a dedicated and motivated person to fill the position of a
Fundamental Model Developer
As part of the Analysis department, the Fundamental Analysis team delivers models and analyses on commodity markets, deals and assets. We provide model-based forecasts of power prices and analysis of price drivers to support decision making in the traded market horizon and beyond. Our analysis is based on fundamental power forecasting models covering our core markets on the continent and in the Nordics.
What you will do:
Models: Development of our in-house fundamental power price model
Develop new model features: e.g. expand the geographical and temporal scope, or improve flow-based market coupling modelling.
Improve model performance by adapting our model to evolving electricity markets.
Improve model architecture to make more efficient use of the cloud infrastructure, and optimize code and data integration.
Maintain and further develop the optimization core of the model, also used for other forecasting models

Analysis: Use the model for simulation runs to answer ad hoc, valuation and flex questions
Enable profitable trading strategies with ad hoc analyses.
Support decision making for project valuations, flex calculations etc.
Investigate ad hoc scenarios to estimate their market price impact and the consequential impact on for example the Vattenfall asset portfolio.

Qualifications
We are looking for someone with:
A sound understanding of the Central and Western European power markets. Knowledge of the Nordic power, carbon and fuels markets is a plus
Experience in developing fundamental power models
Expertise in quantitative methods, power modelling, and/or mathematical optimization, especially using Gurobi is beneficial
High computer literacy, in particular programming skills in Python. Experience collaborating using git/DevOps and preferably cloud (Azure) computing and databases experience is appreciated
An academic degree in engineering, mathematics, or similar
High computer literacy, in particular programming skills in Python. Experience collaborating using git/DevOps is appreciated. Preferably some experience with cloud (Azure) computing and databases
Fluency in English. Swedish or German language skills are a plus
Willingness to travel occasionally
