The Global Product Manager for ABB's Ability Services LEAP & Air Gap Inspector sits within the Center of Expertise for Smart Solutions services to large motors and generators. ABB LEAP is a solution for advanced diagnostics of MV motor & generator stator winding insulation systems, and ABB Air Gap Inspector is an advanced inspection service for large synchronous motors and generators.
The role interfaces with local front-end ABB units around the world, as well as global ABB functions and R&D. The solutions are serving customers all over the world in a segment where growth is expected.
The position is located in Västerås, Sweden.

Your responsibilities
Lead market intelligence analysis. Understand and define current market segmentation and related product positioning. Gather and analyze market intelligence and establish long term vision for future offering. Understand and define market segmentation and related product positioning. Identify potential gaps in portfolio, both against competition and new market opportunity.
Own the technical, market specification for the product/service, and determine a product business plan that supports sustainable growth. Lead life cycle management process, analyze current product/system/service, define and track performance metrics, plan appropriate measures (e.g. enhancements, cost reductions, phase-outs) and make decisions on product obsolescence and end-of life to ensure current and future market requirements are met and maximize profitability.
Act as interface between external market and internal functions (e.g. Sales, Operations, and Research & Development), forecasting volume trends on a regular basis to ensure Operation’s capability to fulfil customer orders. Set targets and monitor product costs, giving inputs to Operations functions (e.g. Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Production) to maximize competitiveness and profitability.
Define new product plans, set technical, price, cost and capital expenditure targets. Contribute to development of new portfolios by leading customer need and value analysis, planning the roadmap to create maximum value, follow-up of product portfolio performance. Actively join in developing product management processes and tools, including interfaces to other key functions of the organization. Initiate and drive cross-functional and cross-organization product and solution innovation teams according to market needs.
Initiate and drive product market communication strategy, including product launch planning and implementation. Manage different channel to market scenarios in coordination with channel partners and Marketing & Sales to ensure best market coverage. Define product customer value proposition per segment and channel and ensure clear communication to channels and users, to deliver clear product positioning within the portfolio with defined values per product/system/service line.
Responsible for product profitability and margin. Drive the annual business planning process and facilitate agreement between sales demand and supply. Monitor global sales target fulfilment and tender volumes and act as appropriate.
Continuously develop product management processes and tools, including interfaces to other key functions and develop sales and tendering tools to support the Sales organization. Initiate and drive cross functional and cross-organization product and solution innovation teams.
Your background
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent qualification
Knowledge of large motors/generators, insulation systems and services
Experience in Product Management or Marketing & Sales is preferred
Fluent in English, written and spoken alike
Entrepreneurial thinking and acting, decisiveness and result orientation
A collaborative, solutions-oriented approach, strong communication and relationship building skills
Ability to work in a multicultural environment, self-confident, diplomatic and energetic
