The Every Drop Matters - EDM - is a partnership between the United Nations Development Programme - UNDP - and The Coca-Cola Company - TCCC- , initiated in 2006, that works for Inclusive Community-Based Water Management and Adaptation to Climate Change for Catalyzing Achievement of the MDGs.
The EDM strategic management is under the overall responsibility of UNDPs Water and Ocean Governance Programme - WOGP. WOGP supports the sustainable use of marine, coastal and fresh water resources and improved access to water supply and sanitation services, and has parts of its work implemented through the UNDP Water Governance Facility - WGF- at the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI).
SIWI is an independent policy institute that seeks sustainable solutions to the worlds escalating water crisis.
The EDM Global Programme Manager will work within the WGF as a staff member of SIWI. The incumbent will report to the UNDP Senior Water Advisor and the WGF Programme Director and the EDM programmes Steering Committee which is chaired by the UNDP-WOGP Senior Water Advisor.
Description of Duties:
The EDM Global Programme Manager will have the responsibility for planning, implementing and further developing the EDM programme and to liaise and collaborate with internal and external partners, including staff and senior managers of UNDP and TCCC, UNDP Country Offices and Regional Bureaux, participating project country representatives, other donors, UN partner agencies, international organizations and NGOs.
The programme manager forms part of the WGF team and participates in its joint activities, with specific responsibilities for the EDM programme, including
- Overall Coordination of EDM Programme Activities
- Advisory Support to Country Teams and Programme or Project partners
- Ensure Systematic Oversight and Monitoring of Projects and Programme
- Knowledge Management and Advocacy
- Resource Mobilization and Programme Development
Competencies
The incumbent should demonstrate integrity and share the UN and UNDPs values and ethical standards.
Functional competencies include strong managerial and leadership experience and decision-making and project management skills, with proven ability to coordinate activities of a complex nature in a multi-stakeholder environment.
Demonstrated substantive leadership and ability to integrate knowledge with broader strategic, policy and operational objectives.
In-depth-knowledge of water resources management, climate change adaptation and water and sanitation services development is essential.
Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills. Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with diverse partners and clients are needed.
Independent judgment and discretion in advising on handling major policy issues and challenges is essential.
Qualifications:
Education
- An advanced university degree in a field relevant to water management, development or capacity building is required.
Experience:
- At least ten years experience working with development issues. Solid experience in programme and portfolio management in relation to water supply and sanitation service delivery.
- At least five years experience of working in an international context. UN experience is an asset.
- Experience in working with the private sector funded international development projects.
- Experience working with civil society groups in the field of water management, sanitation and climate change adaptation.
