The Administration Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Group Leader External Relations and European Projects.

Description of directorate/division
The Leader of the External Relations & European Projects Group will report to the Head of Communications & External Relations. The Communication & External Relations Division works under the ESS Director-General as a support to the ESS management and to the whole ESS organisation. The ESS Communications & External Relations division is in charge of strategic and operational activities relating to Communications and Public Relations. The Division work with external and internal communications.

Description of main responsibilities
The Group Leader will be responsible for managing the External Relations & European Projects Group. The Group is responsible for: 
Identifying, applying for and administer all European Union, multi-national and national funding programs outside the scope of base funding the ESS Construction Project. Activities include:





• Acquisition of new grants

• Management of existing grants

• Development of capacity building programmes for Structural Funds use in the ESS Partner Countries

Coordinating corporate level activities and relationships with ESS Stakeholders including but not limited to the following activities:



• ESS Partner Days organization and follow-up

• Reporting to management and governing stakeholders about the roles and positions of individual participants in the ESS stakeholder environment

• Gather, sort and analyse information about relevant activities and developments in the member states and EU working bodies

• Initiating and organizing meetings between ESS Managements and relevant partners in Member Countries and EU working bodies

• Management of the ESS ILO Network including the information and management tools needed

• Develop and maintain a relevant and up-to-date database of ESS contacts (external relationship management database)

• Develop and lead initiatives to strengthen relationships between ESS and partners

• Coordinating and organizing all formal non-procurement relationships and activities with industrial partners, including Industry Days, technology-transfer activities and general relationship building

Qualifications




• Minimum 10 years of professional experience, 7 in the field of activity, or in comparable areas, dealing with implementing publicly funded activities

• At least 7 years of experience leading international teams

• Project management skills, including responsibilities for financial management and reporting

• Deep knowledge of the EU institutions and the decision-making processes, as well as the developments in the field of Research and Innovation, Enterprise and Industries

• Education and Regional Policy, including the respective funding programme schemes

• Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; fluent in another major European language required

• Experience of working in an international environment is essential

Duration & Location
Two years, with the possibility of conversion to open ended employment agreement.
