Arbetsbeskrivning
EA Sweden is looking for a full-time Head of Career Advice. A successful applicant would work in Stockholm as part of a growing and ambitious EA Sweden team, aiming to make EA Sweden a prominent hub in the international EA ecosystem. Knowledge of Swedish is not a requirement.
A profound understanding of effective altruism is a requirement for this position, and the applicant should have engaged with the effective altruism community and/or ideas for at least a year prior to applying for this job.
The successful candidate’s main responsibilities will include:
Leading the strategic development of career support of EA Sweden
Planning and executing career support activities such as workshops, lectures, retreats, conferences, and individual coaching
Carrying out a large number of individual career coaching sessions
Evaluating of the impact of different career support activities (in collaboration with the Executive Manager)
Potentially collaborating with other relevant EA organizations to develop new forms of improved career support for different target groups
The person must be willing to work in-person at the EA Sweden office in Stockholm (as far as the covid situation allows). Work hours are generally flexible, but evening and weekend work is sometimes required. A remote start could be discussed if necessary.
The starting date for the position will be determined together with the successful applicant, and may be affected by the processing time for a work permit application. While we hope to recruit for this role as soon as possible, it is more important that we find the right person than to fill the position quickly.
About Effective Altruism Sweden
EA Sweden is one of the most established national effective altruism organizations worldwide, with paid staff since 2018. In addition to general community building we have been focusing on providing local career support as a core part of our activities, in the form of workshop series, online content and extensive individual coaching.
Our team is expected to grow in 2022 from two to four or five staff members, and we are in the process of exploring different opportunities to complement the international EA-ecosystem. This could for example include work to enhance regional cooperation, scoping a Nordic EA-aligned think-tank, and trying out new models for attracting and retaining people from more diverse backgrounds, fields and career stages.
Why is this role important?
As Head of Career Advice, you will be the lead of all our career support which is a core part of what we do and where we deem most of our impact has come from so far. Your work will directly influence the career decisions of a lot of potentially high-impact individuals. You will also be in a position to influence the development of career support work throughout the EA movement through collaborations and experimentation with new approaches.
Who is well suited to this role?
We expect a successful candidate to:
Be highly familiar with and interested in the ideas of effective altruism
Have strong independent reasoning skills and excellent judgement
Have strong interpersonal skills, and excitement about working with and supporting community members from a wide variety of backgrounds
Have previous experience of coaching or mentoring
At least two years’ work experience
Fulfilling these additional criteria would be beneficial:
Experience organising and running events such as discussions, talks, or seminars
Have in-depth knowledge of several cause areas in effective altruism (e.g. existential risks, global health/poverty, animal welfare)
Be familiar with different organizations in the global EA environment and have a strong international EA network
Many excellent candidates will have some (but not all) of these characteristics, and we encourage you to apply even if you do not have all of the characteristics listed in either of the categories. Note that knowledge of Swedish is not a requirement (but English proficiency is).
Salary and benefits
The Head of Career Advice would be an employee of EA Sweden.
The salary range is SEK 35 000 - 50 000 monthly (approximately EUR 42 000 - 60 000 annually), depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate.
You will have 5 weeks paid vacation. As a resident in Sweden you are entitled to medical and dental care under the same terms as others who live in Sweden. This means that you pay the standard Swedish patient fee (very low) for healthcare in the public healthcare system. More information about social security and healthcare in Sweden is linked under “Additional information”.
To Apply
To apply, please complete this form. We will review and process applications continuously.
Our process will consist of three phases:
Resume/CV & application form
Work test (less than 2h)
Interviews
We would be very happy to discuss this opportunity with any potential applicants. Please contact Cecilia Tilli, cecilia@effektivaltruism.org if you have any questions regarding the role or application process.
We are committed to building a diverse applicant pool. There is some evidence suggesting that individuals from underrepresented groups tend to underestimate their abilities. EA Sweden does not want the application process to dissuade potential candidates. We strongly encourage interested candidates to apply regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, physical ability, educational background, socioeconomic status, etc.
