Closing date: 2009-09-11 Location: Stockholm, Sweden Position: Head of Communications Responsible to: General Director Starting Date: Early October 2009 Type of contract: Indefinite Contract (Tillsvidareanställning) Salary: According to MSF Sweden salary policy GENERAL PRESENTATION MSF Sweden is a respected and visible actor for humanitarian principles and action in the Swedish civil society, with a strong presence in media.MSF Sweden was founded by Swedish doctors in 1993.As a partner in the international MSF Govement, MSF Sweden exists to assist populations in danger by recruiting medical and non-medical fieldworkers, by raising funds and by raising awareness and provoke change through the act of temoignage (bear witness), or advocacy.Since its foundation, the Swedish section has grown at an impressive rate.In 2008, the Swedish section had 105 departures of field workers to the field. Mission and Nature of the position TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR MSF SWEDEN'S EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL COMMUNICATION IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE VISION AND PLAN.The Head of Communications reports to the General Director, co-ordinates with the other heads of department and manages the Press Officer, the Web Editor, the Communication Officer at the MSF Sweden office in Stockholm as well as the outsourced Information Officer.The Head of Communications actively collaborates with other sections' Communications personnel, the International Information Co-ordinator and Regional Information Officers in international media activities.The convention with OCB makes the OCB Combo unit an important partner in communication planning and activities.Responsible for: - The overall management of the Communication Department.This includes ensuring shared ownership of the vision and plan for the department, and MSF Sweden vision and plan, and delegating responsibilities to relevant team members - The general management of all staff within the department when it comes to development, performance, training, evaluations, contracts and salaries DUTIES - To ensure that a coherent image of MSF is communicated to the Swedish society - To uphold MSF Sweden's communication platform in information materials and campaigns (targeting both external and internal audiences) JOB REQUIREMENTS - Excellent knowledge of Swedish and English, spoken as well as written - Excellent knowledge of Swedish media as well as a good all-round education - Good understanding of national and international processes and realities - Background in journalism or experience from working within communications - Experience of handling (layout-, print- etc) agency contacts - Flexibility, the ability to take own initiatives, handle stress well, be a good team player and ability to manage a team - Strong Analytical, Strategic and Decisive Judgement.Analyzing issues and problems systematically, gathering broad and balanced input, drawing sound conclusions and translating conclusions into timely decisions and actions - Good interpersonal/social skills - Well organised and structured NB!This is an extract from the full Description.Please refer to the MSF Sweden website www.lakareutangranser.se to read the full Job Description.Click on "Lediga tjänster".Please note that your entire application shall be written in English!
