As a new member of our Engineering team, your responsibilities involve driving innovation, fostering collaboration, managing resources, and aligning engineering efforts with the company's overall goals and objectives. The team provides the technical backbone needed for a data-driven and personalised customer experience. The role
Head of Engineering plays a critical role in driving technical innovation, fostering a high-performance engineering culture, and ensuring the successful execution of projects that align with the company's strategic vision and goals. Your main responsibilities include:

Leadership and Strategy - you will provide strategic guidance and set the overall direction for the engineering department. They collaborate with other stakeholders to align engineering efforts with business goals, identify technology trends, and develop long-term plans for innovation and growth.

Team Management - you will manage a team of engineers, ensuring they have the necessary resources, support, and guidance to effectively execute projects. This involves hiring and retaining top talent, fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture, and promoting professional development and mentorship within the team.

Technical Excellence - you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing technical excellence within the department.

Cross-functional collaboration - you will work closely with other departments to ensure smooth coordination and alignment of technical initiatives.

Risk Management - you will mitigate technical risks associated with projects, such as scalability, security, and reliability concerns. The Head of Engineering implements robust processes for testing, quality assurance, and deployment to minimise risks and ensure the successful delivery of technical solutions.

Who are you?
You have a solid understanding of the business side of the organisation. This includes knowledge of market dynamics, competitive landscape, customer needs, and revenue models. You should be able to translate technical initiatives into tangible business value, make data-driven decisions, and effectively collaborate with other departments to achieve overall company goals. Exceptional leadership and management skills. This includes the ability to inspire and motivate teams, foster a culture of collaboration and innovation, set clear goals and expectations, and provide guidance and mentorship. Beside your personality, we would also like you to have:

- Deep knowledge and expertise in relevant programming languages, software development methodologies, system architecture, and emerging technologies

- Knowledge of programming languages, e.g. Python, Java, R

- Experience in proposing and reviewing architecture deliverables throughout the development process to ensure quality, security, and traceability aligned with enterprise data strategy

- Experience in designing & implementing cloud infrastructure & containerized applications

- Experience in development of data pipelines (ETL, ELT) for batch & streaming data

- Experience in data integration - ETL tools including Cloud Data Fusion, Dataflow, and Dataproc. Ingestion mechanism like Flume & Kafka

- Experience with cloud technologies such as Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure & Amazon Web Services

- Experience with database technologies such as MSSQL, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Hadoop, Snowflake

- Fluent in English



Practical information
This is a permanent position with a 6 months’ probation period, based at our Helsinki office at Albertinkatu 25. Starting date as soon as possible or by agreement. We offer a hybrid remote workplace and you will report to CTO.
