WHAT UTOPIANS DO

We build a better world for music with innovative big data technology that tracks online music sources and translates them into meaningful music consumption reports for royalty collection. The solution we're building does not threaten to usurp the role of industry incumbents - it is about bringing transparency in the industry and supporting efficient royalty collection.



WHAT YOUR ROLE WILL BE

Head of Policy's main goal is to push the Utopia brand and its activities to different governmental and institutional stakeholders. As Head of Policy you will review, analyse opportunities, create and execute plans for being present in the various development organisations that are changing the innovation or regulatory landscape of music industry.

You will lead the interface between Utopia Music Group and its broad ecosystem from a transversal perspective. You will establish the company as a key stakeholder and increase adoption at market & political level. Head of Policy plays a strategic role in helping to fulfil Utopia’s plan for growth and value creation by building trust, influence and compliance across the ecosystem.

Focus of the role:

- Policy Strategy: along with the board, oversee policy agenda from landscape analysis to strategic positioning on policies relevant to Utopia’s priorities & interests.
- Networking & cooperation: in charge of leading stakeholders outreach strategy towards key international trade bodies, associations, institutions & academics. Define & lead execution of the best approaches via memberships, alliances or programs in order to leverage Utopia’s awareness, legitimacy, access to strategic knowledge and business opportunities.
- Compliance & synergies: work closely with the board from a cross-functional perspective to align Utopia’s strategy and roadmap with ecosystem’s level macro trends and regulatory framework.
- Advocacy: become the voice of Utopia when it comes to spreading awareness and positioning the company in relation to industry level or regulatory related topics.
- Influence: build trust & thought leadership across the ecosystem in touch with key decision makers at industry level. Work with the marketing team to grow Utopia’s external profile through event & publication strategy.


THE IDEAL SKILLSET

- A strong general understanding of the music policy environment
- Experience of leading the development and managing the production of policy outputs (including managing external contractors) including research reports, briefings and consultation responses, with an eye for detail and accuracy
- Experience of complex research and evaluation including interpreting quantitative and qualitative data
- Excellent communication skills, including experience of communicating complex data for policy audiences
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to negotiate and influence successfully
- Curiosity and strategic thinking, with the ability to analyse and solve complex problems
- Excellent organisation, prioritisation, and project management skills
- A clear, concise and persuasive writing style
- A commitment to setting, tracking and using key performance indicators to evidence the impact of our policy work
- Exceptional writing and editing skills in native level English
- Proven history and track record on working with regulatory and industrial bodies.
