VACANCY
The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using neutrons and operates the brightest neutron source in the world. Every year, the Institute hosts over 2000 visits by scientists, who come to carry out world-class research in a wide variety of scientific fields. Funded primarily by its three founder members: France, Germany and the United Kingdom, the ILL has also signed scientific collaboration agreements with 10 other countries. Head of Purchasing Service
Duties:
The ILL's purchasing activity represents approximately half of its annual budget (100 million euros). As Head of the Purchasing Service, you will hold a key post at the Institute, guaranteeing the best possible purchasing and procurement results, defining the most suitable purchasing strategy, supervising purchasing operations, and initiating improvements in the purchasing process. Your main responsibilities will be to:
-Run and coordinate the activities of the ten-person department
-Take part in the negotiation of ILL's most important supply contracts, as well as in the procedures for referring purchasing matters to the Institute's decision-making bodies (Purchasing Commission, Management Board...)
-Set up supplier assessment tools and organise the associated audits
-Develop and reinforce relations with the purchasing advisors in the ILL's Associate and Scientific Member countries
-Supervise the activities relating to stock control and import-export customs formalities.
Qualifications and experience:
You have a master's degree (or equivalent qualification) in purchasing, business administration, commercial law or similar, together with at least 10 years' experience in purchasing, ideally in the research or engineering sectors.
You also have experience in team management.
As a genuine leader, you know how to create a team spirit, delegate responsibilities and rely on the experts when managing purchasing matters.
Language skills:
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL). Knowledge of German would be an advantage.
