The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) is based in Grenoble (France) and operates Europe's leading research facility for basic research with neutrons. Your tasks
The ILL's Safety group comprises a Head of Group and 2 Safety Engineers. It is responsible for the safety of the ILL's 500 or so staff members, its 1500 visiting scientists per year, and its service providers. Reporting directly to the Head of the Health Physics, Safety and Environment Service (SRSE), your duties will be to:
o Take charge of risk prevention and control in the field of conventional safety:
. propose general health and safety rules and guidelines
. produce the associated documentation (work authorisation forms, occupational hazard and exposure sheets, workstation risk analyses, risk prevention plans, accident analyses, mandatory assessment of occupational hazards, etc.) both for ILL operations and work performed by outside contractors
. monitor compliance with regulations through audits and inspections
. advise ILL Management on the application of legal and regulatory requirements and monitor changes in regulations and standards
o Identify needs and conduct information, awareness-raising and training activities
o Perform safety studies for maintenance and construction work, new instruments and ILL experiments
o Liaise with the Workplace Health and Safety Committee (CSSCT) (statistics, annual health and safety report) and assist in liaising with external bodies (labour inspectorate, inspection bodies, etc.)
o Assist with the organisation of emergency response in the event of an accident and with the preparation, conducting and analysis of safety exercises
o Manage non-radioactive waste and hazardous materials (transport, recovery, disposal, documentation)
o Prepare and monitor statutory inspections (electrical equipment, lifting gear, pressure vessels, etc.)
o Assess requirements, define and update processes, plan and coordinate activities in consultation with the other members of the team
o Manage equipment containing refrigerants or fluorinated greenhouse gases as process manager
o Manage the safety team:
. Supervise, manage and organise work, annual interviews, skills development plan, etc.
. Manage the recruitment of team members and monitor the team's skills set
. Maintain a safe and healthy work environment for staff by ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental procedures.
Your profile
o Level 7 qualification (Master's degree or equivalent) in Health, Safety and Environment Management (or equivalent)
o At least 5 years' experience in a similar post
o Excellent writing skills in French
o Knowledge of nuclear installations and/or radioactivity would be an advantage
o Certification as a Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (classes 2 to 9 except 7) would be an advantage
o You must be independent, meticulous and well organised
o You must be an excellent team player
o Good command of written and spoken English.
