The ILL is a fundamental research institute located in Grenoble, France; it was founded by France, Germany and the United Kingdom. It is Europe's leading centre for research using neutrons and operates the brightest neutron source in the world. The ILL's Health Physics, Safety and Environment Service (SRSE) is part of the Director's Services and is currently looking for a:

Head of the Environmental Monitoring Group

Duties:
The successful candidate will manage the Environmental monitoring group, composed of the Head of group and six technicians responsible for the environmental monitoring activities of the ILL.
You will report to the Head of the Health Physics, Safety, and Environment Service and be responsible for the following:
-Ensuring smooth laboratory operations:
-Maintaining and operating the ILL facilities and equipment required for environmental monitoring at the ILL and in the Grenoble area (laboratory, monitoring stations, radioactive emission control unit)
-Ensuring the supplies (consumables and other products) for running the laboratory
- Hire, manage and monitor suppliers and sub-contractors
-Guaranteeing, within the deadlines, the quality of the analyses and results produced, in compliance with the health physics, safety and quality standards applicable for French nuclear installations (INBs)
-Obtaining and maintaining the approvals necessary for the different measurements
-Producing the statutory records and reports
-Monitoring developments in standards and regulations and adapting the Group's operations as necessary
-Assisting in quality management:
- Ensure that the Integrated Quality Management System used in the laboratory and INB is complied with, applied and developed
- Play a part in the continuous improvement of the Group and the Service
-Providing liaison with stakeholders in this area, both inside and outside the ILL
-Managing the team:
- Supervise, organise, motivate (on-call duties, annual interviews, etc.)
- Recruit lab staff and monitor available skills
- Ensure a safe and healthy work environment for staff by ensuring that the environment, health and safety procedures are respected.

Qualifications and experience:
-Master's level degree in the metrology field, ideally in radioactivity measurement or similar
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar post, with team management
- Excellent French writing skills
- Familiarity with the NF EN ISO/CEI 17025:2017 standard for nuclear installations and/or radioactivity would be an advantage
-You must be independent, methodical, and meticulous in your work, with teamwork skills
Language skills:

As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English

This post is a permanent position.
Medical fitness for work under ionising radiation is required.
Post based in Grenoble and subject to administrative screening.
