VACANCY
The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using neutrons. It operates the brightest neutron source in the world and receives over 2000 visits a year by scientists coming to carry out world-class research in a wide variety of scientific fields. Funded primarily by its 3 founder members, France, Germany and the United Kingdom, the ILL has also signed scientific collaboration agreements with 11 other European countries. Health Physics Technician

Duties:
You will work within the Health Physics Group of the Health Physics, Safety and Environment Service and be responsible for providing radiation protection for staff working on ILL's High-Flux Reactor and experimental instruments. You will be reinforcing the health physics teams working in the context of the ILL's "long shutdown" project on the maintenance and improvement of the high-flux reactor. You will be working in particular on:
-preparing and monitoring operations involving the risk of irradiation and contamination,
-taking radiological measurements in the installations, performing counts and analyses in the laboratory, and interpreting the results,
-controlling the waste and other material resulting from the dismantling of guides and instruments and other long shutdown projects,
-drafting reports and instructions,
-basic repairs to the fixed or mobile health physics instruments,
-dosimetry management,
-taking part in the Group's activities.

It should be noted that the "effluents" laboratory operates in accordance with ISO 17025 standards. The health physics technicians take samples and perform measurements in accordance with this standard.

Qualifications and experience:
-A relevant health physics level 4 qualification (NVQ, BTEC HND or equivalent),
-Professional experience in a radioactive environment of at least 2 years,
-Experience in a radioactivity measurements laboratory and knowledge of nuclear waste treatment would be an advantage,
-The ability to work either alone or in a team, with a sense of initiative and a methodical approach.

Language skills:
As an international research centre we are particularly keen to ensure that we attract applicants from outside France. The successful candidate must have a sound knowledge of English and some knowledge of French (or be willing to learn it; a language course will be paid for by the ILL). Knowledge of German would be an advantage.

Notes:
This is a 6-month fixed-term contract.
Medical fitness for work under ionising radiation is required.
