HIBEAM Post-Doctoral fellow for the Spallation Physics group

Arbetsbeskrivning

The European Spallation Source is hiring motivated and inspiring people from across the globe to design, construct and operate the world’s most powerful neutron source. We seek ambitious, talented people in a range of fields who are excited about playing a part in the future of science in Europe. The ESS is a partnership of 13 European countries and occupies a truly impressive campus based in the beautiful, cosmopolitan university city of Lund, Sweden – just 10 minutes from Malmö and 30 minutes from Copenhagen.

We are now looking to appoint a Post-Doctoral fellow for our Spallation Physics Division. This position is supported by a HIBEAM grant from the Swedish Research Council. The High-Intensity Baryon Extraction and Measurement (HIBEAM) programme is a proposed two-stage experiment at the European Spallation Source to search for baryon number violation. The program will include high-sensitivity searches for processes that violate baryon number by one or two units.

About the role:

As the successful candidate and future Post-Doctoral fellow you will:

• Work on neutronic design and development of the future HIBEAM instrument.
• Conduct beam line simulations using radiation transport code like MCNP, PHITS or Geant4.
• Contribute to the design of the magnetics control system of the HIBEAM experiment using finite element code like COMSOL.

About you:

As a committed and interested particle physicist, you are someone who can bring:

• A PhD in nuclear physics, particle physics or a related field.
• Significant experience with scientific programming using languages such as C++ or Fortran.
• Prior experience with Monte-Carlo codes such as MCNP, Geant4, OpenMC, and PHITS as well as any experience with neutron scattering modelling (McStas, VITESS) would be a distince advantage.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, a sense of humour and the ability to be a true team player.
• Excellent skills in both written and oral English.

What can we offer?

Aside from the opportunity to work at one of only 4 linear accelerator-based spallation sources on the whole planet, you can also expect:

• An opportunity to contribute to the future discoveries within neutron science.
• A stunning, brand new workplace filled with innovative minds and brilliant people from across the globe.
• A challenging, exciting and high-paced work environment.
• Market competitive compensation that is individual and differentiated according to role, responsibilities, individual skills, abilities, and achievements.
• Benefits including 30 days of annual leave as well as more than 10 days of public holiday and company days off or days with limited working hours.
• Flexible working arrangements and a real work-life balance.
• Relocation support and allowances if needed.
• An excellent quality of life in the highly sought after, family-friendly, beautiful and well-connected Southern Sweden/Greater Copenhagen region.

Duration & Location:

The position is time limited for a period of 2 years. The role is based in Lund, Sweden and we’d love you to start as soon as possible.

Interested? We sure hope so:
