Arbetsbeskrivning
Chalmers e-Commons works actively to develop the role of Systems Engineers in a research-based environment, providing an exciting and challenging work environment for the knowledgeable and ambitious computer expert with interests close to computing demands on the research frontier.
Chalmers e-Commons
Chalmers e-Commons is a university-wide initiative to further empower researchers and innovators at Chalmers by providing support, collaborative projects, and access to resources for the full range of digital aspects of research. Building on several earlier efforts and a top-level strategic decision, Chalmers e-Commons provides a unique set of integrated digital resources for researchers and innovators.
The e-Infrastructure Team at Chalmers e-Commons
The e-infrastructure team at Chalmers e-Commons operates, manages, and develops modern and exciting large-scale computer system environments used for AI and high-performance computing within cutting-edge science and technology research. The computer systems serve research both at Chalmers and nationally within the national e-infrastructure NAISS. The work in the team includes contacts and collaboration with other compute e-infrastructures, research infrastructures, and organisations both nationally and internationally.
Job description

More specifically, the resources are Linux-based, and include technologies like Virtualization, Containers, Ceph, Infiniband, OpenStack, SLURM, Ansible, etc. Hardware technologies include building and maintaining large-scale compute clusters and storage resources: For example, compute and storage resources for Chalmers and the national ML cluster Alvis. The high-performance computing environment is modern and continuously scaled and maintained to meet the demanding needs of research.
Specific areas include:
• Maintaining the physical hardware of large-scale clusters and storage, installing machines and networking, replacing faulty hardware, etc.
• Configuration and documentation of large-scale computer resources.
• Monitoring and securing systems and networking.
• Setting up and running related services.
You are also expected to take an active role in developing your skills in operating large-scale computing systems. Around 20% of your work can be spent developing skills in line with this overall direction.
