H2 Green Steel is on a mission to disrupt the global steel industry by producing green steel, with the end goal of bringing down CO2 emissions to zero. By using green hydrogen and fossil-free electricity instead of coal; water and heat will be our primary emissions. By 2030, our ambition is to produce 5 million tonnes of green steel annually in our fully integrated, digitalized, and sustainable plant in Boden, located in northern Sweden - currently in construction phase. But this is just the beginning – our expertise in green hydrogen will enable us to decarbonize other industries in addition to steel, and we look forward to what’s next in store for us.

We are recruiting a Lead Instrumentation & Automation Engineer for the hydrogen plant with previous experience from working in the oil & gas, petrochemical, carbon capture or energy transition industries. You will be responsible for ensuring the follow up of all electrical, instruments and automation related equipment, working closely with external consultancies, vendors and suppliers and establishing solid intra and interdisciplinary relationships. You will also be expected to make recommendations on ongoing production issues and bottlenecks as well as conceptualizing solutions for new projects. To be successful at H2 Green Steel you will need to be able to work well in a greenfield environment, be able to navigate in ambiguity, eager to find solutions and highly motivated by driving this industry shift. We expect you are a hard worker, well organized, proactive, with a teamwork attitude, a flexible approach and ability to work under pressure.
Responsibilities
Conduct reviews, verifications and provide technical support of equipment suppliers’ engineering, including testing, installation, and commissioning of equipment, including familiarity with risk assessments, design reviews, constructability, HAZOP, etc., related to the hydrogen production.
Review designs, drawings, and layouts. Utilize diverse procedures and standards to enhance original design work and execute layouts. When necessary, establish Automation system (DCS, PLC, etc.) specification and IO requirements.
Review/evaluate equipment technical specifications and supplier documentation, specifications and mechanical & process data sheets, enquiries, technical bid analysis and technical recommendations and vendor review.
Calculate and monitor performance indicators in accordance with technical instructions.
Check and sign off all produced documents (internal & subcontracted) such as design reports, technical specifications, drawings, etc.
Interface with other disciplines, vendors, and required parties with E & I engineering input in support of activities in design of equipment, component and process systems.
Provide expert advice for construction and site activities as necessary for equipment installation, start-up and commissioning.
Develop budgets and approve expenditures for supplies, materials, or human resources. Analyze any deviation from budget, determine if corrective action needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering (Industrial Instrumentation, Process Automation, Electronic, Electrical, Instrument/Control, etc.)
Minimum of 10 years' hands-on experience in handling conceptual basic and detail engineering roles, preferably as a Senior/Principal/Lead Engineer in reputable engineering firms (having worked on assignments for green and brown field plants in chemical, petrochemical, refinery, power, oil & gas or similar) giving experience in equipment selections, specifications, requisitions, technical bids evaluation and supplier document reviews, etc.; alternatively having worked for equipment manufacturers process plant equipment
Extensive experience in the field of automation and instrumentation systems including in HV/MV/LV switchgear, transformers, MV/LV motors, DCS & PLC control systems – and reviewing technical drawings, including E&I drawings, logic drawings, and instrumentation specifications. This requires a good understanding of automation systems including hardware (servers, controllers, historian, engineering, and operation stations), software configuration, and communications protocols (Ehernet, Profibus, Modbus, etc.) required to connect to various equipment packages
Experience in all phases of projects up to completion & manpower supervision including considerable practical experience in design, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting of electrical and instrumentation systems
Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team for process plant projects and/or on-/offshore development projects
Excellent English communication skills
