Join us and be a key player in the build of our new Biopharmaceuticals R&D Cell Therapy department. Together we will push the boundaries of Science!

Biopharmaceuticals R&D is now building a new cell therapy department with the goal to establish AstraZeneca as a world-leader in the stem cell field and to build a competitive pipeline within cell therapy across disease areas within Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM) and Respiratory and Inflammation (R&I). The cell therapy department will bring together >50 specialists to support the organisation with cell therapy expertise and capabilities. The new department will be an agile "biotech-like" organisation, with specialists in the department working closely with experts across AstraZeneca to leverage the existing and emerging platforms in stem cell technologies, new modalities, universal cell lines, and CRISPR-mediated genome editing.
The role is placed at AstraZeneca's dynamic R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden, where you will work in an international environment at the fore-front of Cell Therapy science.
What you'll do
As a skilled in vivo scientist, with a background in regenerative medicine, you will work collaboratively with project leaders, in vitro and in vivo scientists and therapy area specialists to drive our scientific capabilities and ensure efficient progress of Cell Therapy projects.
This is a lab-based role where you will provide scientific leadership by using your in vivo knowledge and expertise to design experiments, deliver data and propose next steps in support of cell therapy projects. You will take a leading role in developing our scientific capabilities and presenting our novel work externally. In this role you will have the opportunity to work in a highly cross disciplinary environment to develop and apply cutting-edge scientific tools within the area of regenerative medicine. Accountabilities include:

Design and execute both in vivo and in vitro experiments to generate high quality, relevant data
*
Independently assess and report data to support project decisions and milestones
*
Communicate and share relevant information between distinct projects within the bioscience department as well as across other functions and also externally
*
Keep up-to-date with relevant scientific literature and technology platforms as well as writing and publishing scientific papers
*
Actively participate in mentoring Postdocs, PhD students, Master Thesis students and more junior colleagues in the team
*
Ensure that your work is compliant, to a high quality and in accordance with other relevant internal and external standards and regulations
Essential for the role
*
Ph.D. in Cell Biology or a related discipline or a BSc/MSc degree with relevant academic or industrial experience
*
Experience of developing and working with complex in vivo models such as xenograft models or ischemia-reperfusion injury models
*
Strong scientific communication and presentation skills.
*
Strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset and a strong team player
*
Good leadership profile with people and project management skills
*
Ability to work independently, lead initiatives and have a positive, goal oriented and problem-solving attitude
*
Good organizational, data management and documentation skills
Desirable for the role
*
Experience of humanized mouse models and immunocompromised animals
*
Experience of histological analysis methods and immunohistochemistry (IHC)
*
A proven track record of high productivity and scientific publications in peer reviewed journals
