What we offer
Volvo Cars is on an ambitious journey when it comes to electrification and sustainability.  As a part of this journey, we have initiated a research project together with Jönköping University on efficient and optimized mega casting product design. The project aims at defining material, manufacturing, and product requirement for large aluminium (mega) cast structures. You will get the chance to deep-dive into and develop efficient design methodologies, with special focus on allowable alloy variations and understanding of microstructure variations. For this, we need a highly motivated person for an industrial PhD position. You will be part of building up a unique competence within a highly prioritized focus area at Volvo Cars. The position will formally be at the department Painted Body, but the work placement will be divided between Volvo Cars and Jönköping University.

What you’ll do
Your major responsibilities are to pursue your own doctoral studies. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing. The work will include modelling as well as experimental verification of models for mega casting product design. The work will be carried out at Volvo Cars and at Jönköping University.

You and your skills
To qualify as a PhD student, you must have a master's level degree corresponding to at least 300 higher education credits in applied mechanics, materials engineering, or similar. For this position, it is an advantage to have a strong background with some experience in mechanics or materials engineering. Candidates should be interested in pursuing research in an industrial environment. The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English.
