AWA is looking for an Industrial PhD student with a focus on generative Artificial Intelligence in Legal Tech. This unique position offers the opportunity to combine practical work experience at AWA’s head office in Malmö with academic research at Linnaeus University in Växjö.

Your primary responsibilities will be to analyse and develop tools using generative AI that streamline the consultant role and contribute to improving the quality of our delivery. Initially, the focus will be on examining the patent process from different perspectives and security aspects. You’ll get a lot of freedom to influence the content of your role, where your contribution will greatly impact the company’s results. Example of areas where we think generative AI could be useful are generating draft patent application descriptions, quality assessment of texts such as patent claims, patent descriptions, drafting responses to office actions, translations of different documents etc.
General entry requirements; You have
• been awarded a second-cycle qualification
• passed courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the second-cycle or has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.
Specific entry requirements; You have
• passed courses of a minimum of 90 credits in the subject of Computer and Information Science or the equivalent
• successfully defended an individual study project of a minimum of 15 credits in the subject Computer and Information Science, or the equivalent.
Assessment criteria
You have good programming skills and solid training in mathematics and theoretical computer science. Documented expertise and working experience within at least two of the following research and educational areas is a great advantage:
• Generative AI
• Big data analytics
• Large Language Models
• Machine learning

About the position
The doctoral program runs over a five-year period and as an industrial doctoral student, your time will be distributed 20% research studies 60% research and development 20% other duties at AWA.
You will be employed directly by AWA and positioned within the Business Area Software and communication. You will also be enrolled as a PhD-student in information and computer science at Linnaeus University and affiliated to the industry graduate school of DISA (DIA, https://lnu.se/en/dia).
