Arbetsbeskrivning
At Heart Aerospace we develop the ES-30, a regional electric airplane with a capacity of 30 passengers driven by electric motors with battery derived energy. The ES-30 is expected to enter into service in 2028.
We are now looking for a Industrial Postdoc Stability & Controls Engineer to join our Flight Science team in Gothenburg. Do you have a doctoral degree and background in aircraft stability and control and want to contribute to a more sustainable future?
Your mission
This position is a great opportunity for you as a postdoc to apply your scientific and technical skills as part of an international team of leading researchers in a research area from an innovative aerospace company with great impact for industry and society.
You will be hired in a permanent position by Heart and work in conjunction with Chalmers University of Technology in this 2-2.5 years project. The postdoc associate will spend his/her time with the Departments of E2/M2 but employed by the company.
In this project, you will lead and perform cutting-edge research on parameter identification. You are expected to publish high-quality, high-impact papers, produce processes and tools at Heart Aerospace. The work will be conducted with PhD students, other senior researchers, and engineers in the team as well as with our collaborators.
You will help us develop and certify ES-30 aircraft. As a hybrid aircraft, with some new and novel design features, this may entail innovative approaches on modelling, analysis, and testing.
Project Description
The aim with this project is to advance the state-of-the-art research behind full electric aircrafts. The intention is to identify aircraft parameters and aerodynamic derivatives using tests in a subscale model of an aircraft. We therefore aim using the instrumented subscale model and a semiempirical model to develop process and tools to perform the parameter identification in the full-scale aircraft. With flight test data and semiempirical data we aim at estimating the parameters such as drag and lift force for robust control purposes (control model-oriented parameter estimation).
The intention is to estimate (with uncertainty bounds) parameters for a rigid body 6DoF aircraft model where measurement data will be obtained from flight tests and semiempirical data. The development of System Identification tools in the context of Aerospace Engineering has a strong industrial appeal as these can be readily used to improve existing models, once flight test data is available.
Information about the research group
In this project, Heart Aerospace and Chalmers University of Technology pioneers to work together. Chalmers is among the top research schools in Europe. The research environment is international and English is the working language. More precisely, the industrial postdoc will conceive help in aero/fluid dynamics experts (Department M2) and run robust control oriented model parameter estimation techniques (Department E2).
Qualifications & Experience
- To qualify for the position, you must hold (or be very close to completion of) a doctoral degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Control, Transportation or similar awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers).
- Applicants must have a strong background in aircraft stability and control mathematics, parameter identification, coding theory, or machine learning.
- We look for candidates with a strong interest in pursuing theoretical research, who are independent, curious, and creative, and have the ability to work in an international environment and to present their ideas effectively.
- Good programming skills (Python and MATLAB).
- Excellent publication, scientific track record.
- Thorough understanding of aircraft stability and control and parameter identification including theory and current applications.
- Direct experience in the parameter identification.
- Experience with stability and control modelling & simulation.
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills in English.
- Eagerness to work with others.
- Passion for aircraft and electrification of the aviation industry.
The ideal candidate would have.
-
Experience in a relevant engineering discipline, within an aerospace OEM company environment, including the conceptual and preliminary design phase.
-
Experience working in an aerospace start-up environment.
-
Previous experiences in research, publications, and teaching are advantageous.
-
Experience with flight test.
-
Significant aircraft conceptual and preliminary design experience on a CS-25 or regional aircraft program at a leading OEM or start-up.
