The External Relations & EU Projects Group at the European Spallation Source ERIC in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for an Innovation and Industrial Liaison Officer.
Description of directorate/division
The External Relations & EU Projects Group provides tailored support and assistance to scientists and engineers at ESS in developing, writing and submitting applications for national, but mostly European research funding. The Group is also in charge of administrating all awarded grants at ESS, which includes the grant set-up, the financial reporting throughout the implementation phase as well as the closing-out of the project including the facilitation of audits.
The Innovation and Industrial Liaison Officer will report to the Head of Communications, External Relations and In-kind Division, which is in charge of strategic and operation activities related to internal and external communications, stakeholder relations and the In-kind management. This position is linked to the Horizon 2020 grant BrightnESS, which is dedicated to the individual implementation and operation of ESFRI projects.
Innovation and Technology Transfer:
• Setting-up a Technology Transfer Office at ESS including development of internal policies, processes and procedures
• Working with ESS staff and partners to help turn innovative scientific and engineering technologies into new products and services
• Identification of commercial strategies for transferring technologies to industry including supporting proof-of-concept activities to potential end-users
• Negotiating appropriate licensing contracts in conjunction with the Legal Division
• Supporting the generation of research "impact" by ESS scientists and engineers
Industrial Liaison:
• Management of the ESS Network of Industrial Liaison Officers in co-operation with the External Relations & EU Projects Group
• Provision of relevant, well-prepared and timely information to the ILO Network about procurement and IKC opportunities at ESS and its partner organisations
• Identification of future technological needs
• Enlarging the base of industrial suppliers (especially for advanced technologies)
• Organisation of events
• Being the first point of contact for industry requests at ESS
• Close cooperation with the in-house Procurement and In-kind units
Qualifications: Required competencies:
• Proven professional experience (5-7 years) from a similar role
• Academic degree in a subject relevant to the portfolio of the tasks
• Grasping technical concepts quickly, and translating these into commercially viable proposals
• Solid understanding of the supply sector for research infrastructures
• Successfully negotiating and licensing commercial contracts with industry
• Proven project management skills, including responsibilities for financial management and reporting
• Experience in working with international, cross-functional teams
• Adaptable and flexible, entrepreneurial

Duration & Location
The temporary position is to be filled as soon as poosible and expires 2018-09-30, at the latest. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
