Innovation Lead: the position
The Climate-KIC has commenced a search for an Innovation Lead within the Nordic Co-location centre and the Innovation Pillar. The Nordic area is undergoing a dynamic period of expansion with Sweden targeted for the near future, followed by Norway, Finland and the Baltic countries. The Innovation Lead will have a key role in this expansion working with business, society and academia to create an outstanding innovation community. For this purpose the Innovation Lead will spend time at the Nordic Co-location centre in Lyngby (40%), at Chalmers (40%) and Johanneberg Science Park (20%). The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a capability to achieve results while working across and within a complex organization.
The Innovation Lead will be responsible for initiating and supporting the portfolio of Innovation projects within the Nordic Co-location centre. The Innovation Lead will work directly with the Nordic Co-location Centre Director oversee and guide the development of the project portfolio focusing on the business development part of the projects, and to ensure consistency of the projects in line with the strategy and objectives of the Climate-KIC.
Climate-KIC projects are focused in 8 main platforms - where the portfolio management of these platforms plays a key role in the Innovation Pillar. The Innovation Lead will play a major role in ensuring that projects successfully deliver products to end-users, customers and the market. This entails working closely with the Platform representatives and other Co-location centre Innovation Leads.
Key responsibilities
The Innovation Lead of the Nordic Co-location centre will initiate and support a large pipeline of projects of three major types:
(i) Pathfinder projects, which investigate and prioritize potential areas for new innovation products and services and establish clear roadmaps towards achieving these outcomes.
(ii) Innovation projects, which primarily aim at developing self-sustaining outcomes such as new products and services, including innovative policy mechanisms leveraging new financial support for the targeted climate innovations.
(iii) Flagship projects, which are large scale initiatives with significant external funding. At present the Nordic Co-location Centre is involved in three such flagship: Building Technology Accelerator, Smart Sustainable Districts and Encore (changing CO2 from a problem to a resource)
Responsibilities include the following list of activities
- Oversee and guide the development of the Innovation portfolio for the Nordic Climate-KIC, Chalmers and Johanneberg Science Park
- Support the development of innovations within company and society creation or technology transfer into incubation and identification of market and investment opportunities
- Liaise and develop partnerships and synergies with the Entrepreneurship and Education Leads of the Nordic Co-location centre and at central Climate-KIC.
- Ensure co-development of goals, approaches and processes through communication, training and support for the Nordic Co-location centre.
- Support the Nordic representatives on the Climate-KIC Platforms in creating and delivering clear roadmaps for Innovation activities.
- Analyse outcome delivery across portfolios and contribute to the excellence of the Innovation activities
- Support communication and marketing of KIC activities and results within and outside the KIC Community
Qualifications
- You should preferably hold a Phd or equivalent through experience in a relevant subject. Candidates demonstrating other qualities may be considered.
- You must have some years of experience in implementing innovations in a business and/or societal setting.
- You should demonstrate knowledge of Innovation practice in relation to climate change or sustainable development issues and in organizing and implementing large programmes.
- You must have a proven track record of the ability to bridge the academic, corporate and public sector worlds.
- You may have experience of being involved in or gaining funding at a European level.
- You must be able to demonstrate capability to work in a complex, highly changeable and challenging work environment.
- You are a dynamic and a creative individual who would use every opportunity to build and promote the Nordic Co-location centre and the Climate-KIC.
- You are able to network within an international team and in a multidisciplinary context.
- You have an excellent command of English. You should expect to learn sufficient Swedish for verbal communication during a two year period.
Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be negotiable based on experience.
This is a full time, permanent position and is available from 1 October 2014. The position includes extensive travel within the Nordic region and Europe.
