As Director for our Discovery Biology department at our vibrant AstraZeneca R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden we are seeking an individual with great knowledge of leading scientists to deliver deep technical and scientific expertise in the creation of protein and cellular reagents and assays to enable drug discovery in Cardiovascular, Renal, Metabolic and Respiratory diseases to new successes.
The Discovery Biology department is a part of the broader Discovery Sciences organisation, devoting world-leading expertise to support the identification of quality targets, hits, leads and drug candidates. What you will do:
In this role you will lead the department's work with expression and purification of recombinant proteins, the creation of cellular models of disease and the development of biochemical and cellular assays for the discovery of a range of therapeutic modalities including small molecules, PROTACs and antisense oligonucleotides. Working as part of the global leadership team, you are expected to contribute to the development and execution of AstraZeneca's global research strategies.
As Director of Discovery Biology, you are accountable for developing the future of our assay development capability. Driving innovation, scientific excellence and external visibility of the Discovery Biology capability through internal technological development, external collaborations, publications and conference presentations is also included in this role. Furthermore, we expect you to build trusting relationships with scientific colleagues and lead a high performing department with a passion for scientific delivery and innovation to continuous improvement.
Essential for the role:
*
PhD/Post-doc in Biology / Biochemistry / Genetics field with >15 years' experience in a drug discovery environment.
*
A proven scientific track record of innovation and delivery within the field of small molecule drug discovery.
*
Track record of leading medium sized groups in highly matrixed science and technology based organisations.
*
Significant experience in the leadership of drug discovery projects and shown ability to build new research strategies to drive organisational success.
*
Experience in project management, change management and/or implementation of process optimization approaches with ability to recruit, retain and develop the team members.
