Job Scope
High level purpose of function
Responsible for specification and design of process instrumentation and project engineering support at Northvolt’s upcoming giga-scale world class Battery Active Materials factory in Skellefteå, Sweden. Executing as EPC(m) project through partnership with top-tier international engineering contractors.
Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to)
Overall areas of responsibility and activities
· Act as the representative process instrumentation lead for the Northvolt owners project team, support the US2 project team to improve the quality of instrumentation deliverables (specifications, lists, datasheets, etc) issued by the EPCm contractor Worley, with support from the other Northvolt discipline leads, ensuring design is safe, functional, and cost-effective,
· Drive standardization initiatives for various field instrument types, through identification of opportunities in specifications in cooperation with the project contractor,
· Participate in regular meetings with the EPC contractor and Northvolt engineering teams,
· Manage project delivery within the instrumentation discipline,
· Review instrumentation engineering documents and drawings as necessary, provide comment and steer to the contractor, seeking opportunities for the owner’s team to leverage existing instrumentation framework agreements between Northvolt and its vendors,
· Evaluate change proposals from own discipline, from cost, schedule, constructability and HSE perspective,
· Develop a basis/blueprint specification for instruments used in Upstream processes and utilities. Improve the Northvolt instrumentation blueprint via collaboration with the Northvolt process, piping and mechanical teams,
· Provide technical guidance, management & closure of technical queries within your discipline, and coordinating the input from other discipline leads through the detailed design phase,
· Support the contractor by auditing the instrumentation ordering and delivery processes, ensuring that instruments ordered are accurately spec'd, preconfigured, and prepared for the field to enable ease of install during construction phase,
· Support with vendor package instrumentation specification and reviewing of instrument lists. Review the instrumentation deliverables for vendor packages ensuring that vendor instrumentation meets the project specifications.
· Attend design reviews, project review workshops, FATs as required,
· Provide input on and review ITP/QC requirements for vendor packages,
· Provide on-site support to Project Construction team(s) for field engineering issues. Support with the management and resolution of queries & issues with support of the Engineering Contractor,
· Support the contractor’s Instrumentation Design Lead in handover of the instrumentation design documentation and other deliverables to the Operations & Maintenance Team.
Requirements
Education or other qualifications or competences relevant in order to succeed in the job
Qualifications/education/experience
· Electrical/Controls/Chemical Engineering degree, BSc (hons), equivalent certification from a Instrumentation Technical Institution, or any equivalent,
· 5+ years of relevant work experience in similar roles, high familiarity with process instrumentation design,
· Experience in supporting other project functions with input, including estimating, scheduling, HSE risk assessments, model reviews, and constructability reviews.
· Previous experience with large-scale greenfield projects, particularly in the Battery Materials or Oil & Gas industries, is strongly desirable but not essential.
· Familiarity with Swedish and European laws, regulations and standards is strongly desirable but not essential.
· Experience in pCAM and/or CAM manufacturing and equipment selection is a plus.
· Fluent in English, ability to speak the Swedish language is a plus.
· Open to frequent travel for collaboration with the engineering contractor (U.K. based), and equipment vendors.
