Role Overview
The Interior Design Engineer reports to the Head of Structures and Interiors. This role will be focused on developing the flight deck interior definition, comprising of interior panels, linings, equipment, monuments, and emergency equipment, overseeing the interface activities with airframe design, systems, installation design and human factors.
This position will have broad responsibility for the flight deck design, interfacing with, and overseeing, internal and external teams and suppliers. The role covers design and testing activities. This position will also take part in establishing our ways of working, covering writing, reviewing and implementing group and company level policies, procedures, guidelines and templates.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Design and integration activities related to the flight deck interior, including: interior trim panels, flooring, monuments, emergency equipment, flight crew seats, observer seat etc.
- Support definition of the Occupant Safety aspects of the flight deck, including: HIC (head injury criteria), limb clearances, and flight deck emergency egress.
- Support the development and coordination of the Flight Deck Door, including: the integrated electrical/avionics systems; flight crew security aspects related to penetration and intrusion protection.
- Prepare development and compliance documents such as analysis reports, system descriptions, test plans and test reports.
- Support the Human Factors aspects of the flight deck design such as ergonomic considerations i.e. anthropometric range of manikins, poses, reach zones, vision cones, vision diagrams (FAA Advisory circular) etc.
- Interface with internal certification specialists/CVEs, assisting in determining the aircraft and system level certification programmes.
- Participate in Interior component, system and aircraft level testing activity, including preparing and supporting testing and conformity documentation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5 years experience in an aerospace flight deck interior design environment.
- Knowledge/experience with aircraft interior structures, materials, processes and loading conditions.
- Experience in converting digital mock-up data to developing and building representative physical mock-ups.
- Experience with design configuration control and design modification procedures.
- Experience with aircraft development programs (ideally in an OEM environment) through the entire design, development, certification, and production lifecycle (EASA/FAA Part 25).
- Working knowledge of supplier management/oversight, definition of supplier testing requirements and the documentation required to support the aircraft certification activities.
- Working knowledge of EASA/FAA cabin safety regulations CS25 / 14 CFR Part 25.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or similar desired
- Excellent organisational, analytical problem solving and strategic thinking skills
- High proficiency with Catia V5/V6 and PLM systems (ideally 3DExperience).
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills in English

The ideal candidate would have
- Experience working in an aerospace start-up environment.
- Experience working with human factors on flight deck design development in an integrated environment.
- Applied knowledge/training on ARP4754 and ARP4761
- Experience interacting with CVEs/DERs, such as joint review on design, analysis, and test document preparation.
- Experience dealing face to face with suppliers worldwide, participating in design integration and testing campaigns.
