Who are we?
Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future. Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we’re expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we’re on the lookout for new talent. We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars’ journey into the future.
What´s in it for you
The Volvo Cars mobile app revolutionized the industry and every day we make life less complicated for hundreds of thousands of people by giving them remote access to the car from the comfort of their couch. With the app you can, for instance, start, heat and prepare the car for your trip by sending your destination to the car, either from your phone, tablet or your watch.
Here in Gothenburg (Lindholmen), you will work in a creative environment, within an ART that is constantly implementing new functionality, where we focus on both developing the product but also the individuals. Our teams carry out both frontend Android and iOS development as well as backend C++ development where your primary focus will be on the development of the iOS mobile app, but with the opportunity to learn from your peers, broaden your skills and experience within the other system parts. So, come join us at the forefront of technology and create the next thing that magazines and sites like Engadget and the Verge write about.
Your responsibilities
As an iOS Software Developer, you will design, develop and maintain the Volvo Cars iOS application for iPhone and iPad. Engage with the rest of the team and actively work towards our common team goals. You will write testable code and unit tests as well as review your peer’s code. Lastly, following technical trends and raising innovative new features will also be part of your daily work.
You and your skills
In order to thrive in this role, you have a great passion for new technologies, software development, and creating great user experiences. You are willing to take up the task that is most important for the team to progress and always with a positive and easy-going mindset.
We expect you to have a BSc degree in a computer-related field or equivalent work experience as a mobile apps software developer or be a passionate spare time developer. We believe that you have documented experience of released applications (at least one published app) or open source projects, either by your own accord or as a member of a team. You have experience in writing testable and maintainable code, are fluent in Swift (Objective-C knowledge is a plus), and have a good understanding of the iOS platform and framework. Additionally, your English is fluent, both verbally and written, as well as you are confident in working with Github and Git.
Meritorious skills
It's highly meritorious if you carry experience in Android mobile app development using Java, and previous experience with mobile apps projects involving smartphone accessories using BLE. It's also meritorious if you have an understanding of C++ cross-platform development, experience in other agile tools such as Jira and Jenkins, as well as experience in software development automation.
