IP Specialist, Patent Information Professional

We now have an exciting opportunity within the IP team for a curious individual who would like to develop in the area of Patent Information.

As The Patent Information Professional you will work with AstraZeneca's Global Intellectual Property (IP) team to provide high quality searching and analyses related to AstraZeneca's worldwide patent portfolio. The Patent Information Professionals support the Global IP team in the areas of in-licensing opportunities, novelty and patentability searches, Freedom to Operate searches, patent alerts, and other areas of risk management related to AstraZeneca's patent portfolio. We will continuously support your development and grow your expertise in patent searching through internal and external training opportunities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

You will design and conduct patent searches, review and analyze the search results, and then prepare and deliver the search results to the Global IP attorneys. This is done by applying a number of databases and search tools to perform the searches. The search results are then reviewed and analyzed, and a summary of the findings is shared with the IP attorney.

Essential Requirements

* Scientific degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field
* Technical understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, including both small and large molecule therapeutics, manufacturing and process development, and drug delivery
* Significant practical experience searching and reading scientific information
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to work well both independently and work collaboratively in a team
* A curiosity about learning about patents
* An analytical mindset, excellent attention to detail, strong time management, and goal oriented

Desirable Requirements

* Knowledge of intellectual property
* Experience with database searches using different strategies and techniques
* Skilled at creating optimal search strategies applying searching tools
* Experience in data analysis, retrieval, mining, and/or visualization
