By applying for the IT & Strategy Talent Programme you can become 1 of 23 talents working towards that goal. Each of the 23 positions in the program is unique and has its own specific responsibilities and challenges. This is a two-year programme with a strong focus on your development. You will have an individual development plan aiming at a targeted competence profile after two years and building blocks with learning goals towards that target. As part of the programme, you can look forward to assignments/rotations aimed at giving you a chance to really get into a project and deliver value.
Your role as a Power Systems Analysis and Control Engineer
As an R&D Engineer we offer you the opportunity to join need you to strengthen our Power Technology Section by workingand work to develop and use new technology in the transmission system towards better and more efficient control of power system components, grid control, understanding new components, grid codes, stability, and supervision of the grid. If we also have a in Control and Optimization it is advantageous.
We look forward to help you develop your competence which is crucial for Vattenfall in many areas such as several upcoming new transmission issues both onshore and offshore for wind, hydropower, distribution, as well as nuclear. Avoiding bottlenecks in transmission systems with easy implemented methods are key to enable our purpose which is Fossil-free within one generation.
In the future, stability issues like voltage and frequency stability, are important to control to make room for more weather dependent production and new loads. The position is needed for strategic development and business case analysis for new grid solutions and enable our customers to at in a flexible manner.
Vattenfall R&D is responsible for conducting corporate business driven technical development that creates value for Vattenfall and helps realizing our strategy. We work in agile teams close to the business of Vattenfall. The corporate R&D unit employs 130 people located in three different offices in Sweden and Denmark. The section Power Technology works with power system analysis and control needed to understand bottlenecks and dynamic behaviors in the electrical grid as well as optimization and control of the power system including both its loads, productions, and control. At the section we create several pilot installations of new creative solutions to grid challenges.

Qualifications
Who are you?
We see that the successful candidate holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Power Technology or similar. While it is not a must, it is advantageous if you have up to two years of experience in the design and analysis of power systems for either distribution grids or energy industries and if you have competence within Control and Optimization. Since you will be working in an international, diverse environment, fluency in English is a must, while a good command of Swedish is not a requirement but will be considered as a merit.

On the personal level, you are analytical, committed and self-driven with good communication and interpersonal skills. You are able to communicate and present clearly at all levels. You are able to develop rough ideas and ambitions into concrete and successful projects. As the work involves extensive interaction both internally and with external partners and suppliers, a good understanding of commercial aspects and an ability to establish and maintain relationships and networks is key. A passion for new technology we believe is a necessity for this role.
Moreover, you have good command in any simulation tool like PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory, and Matlab.
Additional Information
Location
You will be working in the department of Power Technology at Vattenfall R&D and the location for this position is either Solna or Älvkarleby. After a two-year period you will be transferred to Business Area Distribution where you will work as a Power Systems Analysis Specialist.
