IT & Strategy Talent Programme: R&D Microgrid Engineer

Arbetsbeskrivning

Now you can shape the path towards fossil free living. We're searching for talented individuals to join us on our journey towards fossil free living. Individuals that challenge the way we think, lead us down new paths and contribute to solving the biggest challenge of humankind – climate change. Is this you?
By applying for the IT & Strategy Talent Programme you can become 1 of 40 talents working towards that goal. Each of the 40 positions in the programme is unique and has its own specific responsibilities and challenges. This is a two-year programme with a strong focus on your development. From the outset you’ll have your own development plan which will be tailored towards a role suitable for you and include building blocks with learning goals towards that target. The focus is very much on learning by doing, and together with your manager you’ll select different assignments and rotations where you’ll participate in real projects, and contribute to fossil free living, at the same time as you get the experience you need to boost your development.

Your role as a R&D Microgrid Engineer
As an R&D Engineer we offer you the opportunity to join our Power Technology Section and work to develop and use new technology in the transmission systems towards better and more efficient control of power system components, grid control, understanding new components, grid codes, power systems analysis, and supervision of the grid. We look forward to help you develop this competence which is crucial for Vattenfall in many areas such as several upcoming new transmission issues both onshore and offshore for wind as well as avoiding bottlenecks in transmission systems.
In the future, stability issues like voltage and frequency stability are important to handle and you will be part of exploring how Microgrids, digitalization of substations, as well as autonomous customer control can contribute to this. The position is needed for strategic development and business case analysis for new grid solutions such as efficient communication and control, protection systems, and digitalization.
In the position you should have an interest of project management and application of new customer products like charging of heavy vehicles.

Who are you?
We see that the successful candidate holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Power Technology or similar. While it is not a must, it is advantageous if you have experience in the design and analysis of power systems for either distribution grids or energy industries. Since you will be working in an international, diverse environment, fluency in English is a must, while a good command of Swedish is not a requirement but will be considered as a merit.

As a R&D Microgrid Engineer you recognize yourself in the following:
On the personal level, you are analytical, committed and self-driven with good communication and interpersonal skills. You are able to communicate and present clearly at all levels. You are able to develop rough ideas and ambitions into concrete and successful projects. As the work involves extensive interaction both internally and with external partners and suppliers, a good understanding of commercial aspects and an ability to establish and maintain relationships and networks is key. A passion for new technology we believe is a necessity for this role.
Moreover, you have good command in any simulation tool like PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory, and/or Matlab. Have you worked with a real-time simulator it is also beneficial for the position.

Location
You will be working in the department of Power Technology at Vattenfall R&D and the location for this position is either Solna or Älvkarleby. After a two-year period you will be transferred to Business Area Distribution/Network Solutions where you will have a key role in designing creative network solutions to customers in the new energy landscape.
