Nasdaq is looking for a Senior Economic and Statistical Researcher to join the Nordic ESR-team, the data and analytics hub of the exchange.

With this position, we offer you the opportunity to be part of the Nordic ESR team that provides the Nordic & Baltic region analytical support for all Nasdaq business units. This is achieved by providing Business Intelligence systems for self-service analysis, reporting of recurring statistics and bespoke research services for ad-hoc questions, all to help improve trading, capital formation and market structure.
The ESR team is the amalgamation of three teams: Technology, Research and Statistics, that are jointly responsible both for the technical infrastructure and for providing reporting and business insights from prudent management of trading data from our Nasdaq European Markets.
ESR Tech maintains a data warehouse and two Business Intelligence systems. Additionally, the team maintains a proprietary report agent for distributing large number of reports both for internal and external use. ESR Statistics produces official statistics for the public, as well as national and international organizations such as the Riksbanken, SCB, IMF and FESE. ESR Research performs research on market quality, market and competitor analysis, provides ideas and analysis for business development and product development purposes.
Your role and responsibilities
This position is a senior position of the ESR Research team, and the selected candidate will conduct research and prepare papers/quantitative reports for consideration and presentation to internal customers, external meetings, senior executives and Boards of Directors. This is done by utilizing advanced analytical techniques to produce top quality research on areas such as market microstructure, pricing, market regulation and strategy. You will calculate and extract meaningful business insights from market data, such as different liquidity metrics, price impact and adverse selection. Additionally, you will also:
Contribute to a variety of initiatives and projects by producing quantitative and qualitative analysis and providing recommendations for senior management based on findings
Identify important topics for analysis to improve the European market structure, regulation, market quality or revenue.
Take ownership of the research data environment, initiate and drive improvements to the capabilities and processes of the research team
Develop core analytical capabilities or model libraries, using advanced statistical, quantitative, or econometric techniques.
Create clear, concise and organized communication materials (e.g. policies & procedures, technical documentation, guidelines, presentations, messages)
Coaching of less experienced peers to success, and proactively shares experiences and knowledge towards the achievement of team objectives
We expect you to have
An academic degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, Economics or equivalent
Approximately 10 years of relevant experience
Expertise in market microstructure theory or market structure
Strong skills in econometrics, machine learning and/or statistical methods from other fields
Strong statistical programming skills in R, Python, SAS or similar, working with specialized statistical packages and large data sets
Experience in producing actionable decision material for senior management, and ability to explain complex and technical concepts in a simple and meaningful way
Strong skills in SQL (MS, PostgreSQL, Redshift) for analytics
Fluent English language skills
It would be great if you have
Background working as quantitative researcher in a trading environment
Extensive hands on experience applying sound scientific practices; formulating and testing hypothesis, back-testing, measuring statistical significance, verifying accuracy and predictive reliability of models
Advanced understanding of capital markets, the European trading environment, market structure and the current regulatory environment
A good understanding of the business drivers of market participants, such as regulated markets, MTF's, SI's and preferably also banks, brokers and institutions
A good understanding of the challenges in maintaining an enterprise data warehouse with high demands on data integrity and availability
Experience in designing ETL, data models, technical infrastructures and enterprise/information/software architecture
Experience with business intelligence, as well as management and regulatory reporting
Experience with cloud services (AWS, Redshift)
Experience working in a governed development environment, having version control, doing code review, producing technical documentation etc
