We are now looking for a Junior Component Engineer to join our highly skilled team at PCP Operations in Västerås, Sweden.
In this role you will be responsible for global component category technical strategies deployment, be the key contact for internal/external stakeholders including commercial purchasing, project purchasing, R&D, quality, project manager, product manager etc. and take full account for the component qualification. Wide scope of active and passive electronics components including IC, MCU, Diodes, Transistors, Memories, MLCC etc. covers all aspects of electronic hardware designs for ABB process automation DCS product business area.
You will report to Global Head of Components Management.
This position reports to Category Manager.
Your responsibilities
Develop category technical strategies to advance part selection and sourcing decisions, doing component CBOM cost review and technology review, align up to date supplier base technology roadmaps, manufacture capabilities and market trends with ABB internal product strategies and business requirements.
Primary technical responsibility for commonization of components and specifications to optimize the components selection process for all PAPCP product design, supporting to develop components library for common materials, parts and specifications to be used in future platform product design.
Provide technical support to the organization in problem resolutions, mega changes, supply disruptions or during implementation of new material technologies.
Act as component application support to assist global hardware and firmware design engineers in global new product development process component selection/debugging and qualification activities, conduct supplier technological assessment and audit.
Drive global product family components 2nd source strategy implementation, replacement release/qualification and add into AML for mass production to mitigate long term supply chain risks.
Maintain component database with new component addon and update, lifecycle maintenance, monitor and mitigate obsolescence issues within major development programs to minimize LTB.
Support components sample purchase/testing for prototype, alpha, pilot runs and support initial production to meeting project schedule.
Support technical analysis for PCN/PDN change process, including raw material, design and process change. Identify and evaluate potential risks which may affect function, ability and reliability, develop reliability qualification plan according to change points and impacts, assist product team risks assessment and risk mitigation/verification plan.
Support structured problem solving in critical components quality issues, including component quality issues, application issues, design issues, supplier manufacturing (fab/assembly/testing) defect issues. Drive zero defect initiatives, drive 8D and corrective actions with suppliers.
Implement and follow up tasks related to SCIP/Reach/RoHS/Ex/UL.etc certification for global products.
Your background
At minimum technical Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
At least 3 years' practical experience in electrical components engineering or hardware engineering, proven experience in industrial business area is an advantage.
Good functional/technical knowledge of electronic components such as electrical and electromechanical components and semiconductor technology.
Good understanding of business practices, market dynamics and trends.
Good negotiation, communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
International minded and can work in a global team.
Fluent written and spoken English and Swedish.
Excellent in Office software incl. Excel, PPT, Power BI etc.
Ability to work independently in a virtual, remote environment.
