Arbetsbeskrivning
The Technical Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden invites applications for a Junior Design Engineer position, in the Engineering & Integration Support (EIS) Division.
Description of division
The Engineering & Integration Support (EIS) division, part of Technical Directorate, is the central engineering and technical division providing transversal support and services to the ESS project and organisation. Today, the division is divided into: Design & Engineering and PLM & Process support groups, as well two additional main functions: Enterprise Asset Management & Technical Information projects, and Systems Engineering & Technical Content Management team (facility documentation).
Description of main responsibilities
The appointed candidate will analyse the stack of tolerances leading from the incident proton beam to the multiple beams of extracted neutrons. The position and orientation of the ports serving as neutron waveguides is indeed essential for the quality of scientific performance. But the installation and manufacturing constraints are also very high, the ports having to be welded with millimetre precision to a large vacuum enclosure (typically 6m in diameter by several meters high). The challenge with the responsibilities to be carried out with Mecamaster is, thanks to 3D dimension chains, to verify the feasibility of these welds while preserving the required level of alignment, and to anticipate possible redesign actions local of the interfaces considered.
