Junior scientific expert - Microbiology and Molecular Surveillance

Job description
We are now looking for a new team member to ECDC (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control) in Stockholm. You will work as a Junior Scientific Expert and support the the Microbiology and Molecular Surveillance team. This is a temporary assignment starting in the beginning of July and three months forward.

Tasks include:


You will report to the Group Leader Microbiology and Molecular Surveillance with task such as:
 
Managing and improving ECDC databases for Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) and molecular typing data;
Using bioinformatics tools for the analysis and visualisation of WGS data for all pathogens listed as priority for ECDC in terms of genomic typing;
Maintaining and extending scripts related to the collection and validation of molecular surveillance data, and related visualisation / data exploration tools;
Generating and disseminating pre-defined outputs from WGS and other molecular typing data;
Contributing to the analysis and interpretation of molecular typing data in the context of detecting, assessing, monitoring and communicating public health threats for the EU;
Presenting information from WGS data analysis to ECDC internal experts and EU/EEA Member State stakeholders;

Qualifications
Competences and experience
n addition to the profile specification, these specific competences and experience are required for the current assignment:
 
At least 2 years of professional experience acquired in positions relevant to the job description;
Experience in use of WGS analyses for disease prevention and control.
Knowledge and experience of relevant technologies for bioinformatic purposes (e.g. Python, SQL, R, Bionumerics);
Very good English language skills
Excellent communication skills (spoken and written)
Very good MS office skills
